Clemson Basketball: What Went Wrong?

this article is from the year after Clemson went to the Sweet 16. With 4 returning starters, expectations were high that we would build upon the previous year when we looked to be a year ahead of schedule. Unfortunately...
Then the next year we went 16-11 and 9-11 in the ACC. Postseason was cancelled, but we would have stayed home regardless.
Then last year we make the tournament but are 1 and done. And now this year we likely won't make the NIT with an ever so slightly winning record in a rally down ACC.
In hindsight, this has been a poor stretch of underachieving teams.

Maybe the change should be in your attitude as CBB is not going anywhere.

The people supporting Brad Brownell as head coach despite his being consistently mediocre over a decade+. The ones making it so “change is not coming.”

Things happen. Who would have thought in 2010, the year after North Carolina won the National Championship, they would only make the NIT. There are no easy answers in sports.

Recruiting, especially in basketball where one or two players can make a huge difference, is extremely important.
I would argue that Brownell has not been a dynamic recruiter.
12 years in, I don’t see why retaining Brownell will produce any significant change in the Clemson basketball program.
I do not expect a change, but I would welcome hiring a young dynamic coach with a personality that can sell the program better.
Same ole same ole is otherwise to be expected with the odd year of making the dance.

I pretty much agree on this. I do think brownell has been right on the cusp quite a few times. He has not been able to get over the hump. I do think we can have a good/great team next year. I've shall see.

I also agree. 12+ years is enough of a chance to prove what you can do. Time to try something else.

Not really a defense, just an observation. We have had some great coaches in the past. I have seen some great games in Littlejohn 79-83... Later, when Rick Barnes was the coach, it was exciting for the most part.
We have seen teams in the past that couldn't even pass the ball when we played real good teams. I don't think we are near that level of poor play. Can we shoot? Some nights are very poor.. Never understood that. By the time you get to college you can either shoot or you can't..
One thing for sure,, If we get a coach that does compete and win a conference title, he will be an icon.
