I hate College Football has come to that. I just don’t see us being very competitive for the transfer guys.

Some of our posters have said the same thing for months while other posters were contending, we could simply offer a scholarship and the top tier guys would jump at the offer.

The top tier guys who are "jumping" already know where they are going and what they are going to be paid before they put their name in the portal.

Exactly! All these loud voices screaming about the portal every single day literally think that all Dabo has to do is call a player up and they will jump to Clemson bc "reasons." Lol
Thats not how it works. Its tampering. It's Pay for Play.

Money talks. All else walks. And Clemson cant keep up.
It's not a knock. Clemson will never stop having a rabid, devoted fanbase. They dont need to go try and be Texas or Michigan or Bama.
Theyre doing good just being Clemson.

In all reality....I cannot see Wake ever being a player

for big time transfers. Maybe they will have top tier money and be a top 25 team consistently, but the draw just isnt there. If a kid is looking at traditional powers and then Wake...there is a major difference even with big money at play.
It'd have to be a unique situation for them to land a major transfer guy....he'd have to be a Wake legacy, really want a Wake masters degree, prior relationship with a one of the coaches, QB for the perfect system, etc.

Maybe not big time, but Wake has always largely been a homegrown type program. Getting 5 years out of guys was a big Grobe tactic that worked out okay for them a few times. As Clawson said they're attracting lower level players today via the portal wanting to move up the food chain and get some additional exposure rather than P5 dudes looking as much to cash in as be part of a school or program.

New Year’s Day is nothing like it used to be.

Yeah. New Years Eve and New Years day is a game many of the players just watch now, unless it's a CFP game. It will be interesting to see if those sit outs start happening when the CFP goes to 12 teams and even more games.

I have fun mixing it up over the idea of the Longhorns pulling down another ring, but if they do it'll be about as fulfilling as watching the Dream Team win the gold.
"This title brought to you by the portal and NIL"
All the basic fun is bleeding out. The hype has subsumed the sanctity.

Pay to play. Gosh , that makes me ill. College football is no longer about academics. It's about "Show me da money" So sad.

And there it is. Another coach speaking the truth. All this screaming about Dabo, NIL, and the Transfer Portal really gets more and more comical each month. I guarantee none of the people crying online about Dabo & the Portal donates substantially to Tiger Impact. The people with that kind of money, don't spend time on the internet being angry. Wealthy people never do.
Also, Dabo is not going to pay free agents in college. We're using NIL to KEEP our star players. He's said this multiple times.
Other schools are calling our guys up every week offering them money. You think TJ Parker and Tyler Brown aren't starting to get those calls? Think again. My advice is for Clemson fans to stop complaining and open up your check book and start donating to Tiger Impact.
We're honestly lucky Dabo hasn't left yet bc of this stuff.

I feel like donating to Tiger Impact at this point would be no different than "donating" to the Carolina Panthers. So I am one of those that contributes nothing

I truly hate what's become of it all and Clawson's right on the money (no pun.)
The possible hidden blessing is perhaps many universities will, out of necessity, remember they're universities and thus put football back in its proper place.
And fans wont have to sell kidneys for tickets or borrow against their 401k for a muddy tailgating spot a mile from their nosebleeds in the stupid huge stadium.
No way my Longhorns go that way. Too much money flowing thru that program. Too many Dallas-sized egos involved. But I do kinda hope Clemson goes that way. They wont, but it'd be nice if they did.

Dabo cant say a word about it. Not a peep. Because he's neck deep in it. The second he took that $120M deal he got it all over him.
Why? Because he took every thin dime of what the market was willing to pay him. If it hadnt of been Clemson, it'd been somewhere else.
Just like Rattler. Or Ewers. Or the Miami twins. Or pick your example.
He cant play the babe of the woods card. Only dude I know who took less to benefit the outfit was .... Cal Ripken Jr maybe? Brady? It's a short list.
And Dabo aint on it.

of top college players and identify who they need. Then they contact the player's friend's, family, ex-coach's, ex-teammates, etc. and indirectly make the needed connection. Negotiations and terms follow. Players giving up a scholarship and entering the Portal without an offered destination are making a big mistake. Saw UGA former HC Jim Donnan and staffer speak a few years ago, and he inferred UGA targeted who the team needed and made it happen with a high success rate.

Been saying this from day one. Just because a good player is in the portal doesn't mean Clemson can just snap its fingers and get him. If they are good and in the portal they are bought and paid for already.
