Rumor on USCe coaching hire
Nov 17, 2015, 9:32 AM
|
|
My wife talked to a former chicken player who is a doctor in Cola. He indicated Herman of Houston to be announced as new coach the first week of December and that all recruiting by the current staff has been halted. This news came from the wife of a USC coach who is a patient in the practice.
Very interesting comments that somewhat verify what I heard from USC students taking classes at Midlands Tech thru the Bridge program.

Yes, MTC started one with USuck several years ago to provide academic help to those who did not have the grades needed to attend their "school of choice." Similar to Tri - County Tech and Greenville Tech working with Clemson.

Bring him on(read this)

Herman took over an 8-5 Houston team that had been recruited for him. At OSU he was recruiting for Mayer and OSU. Let's see how he can recruit for himself at USuC. How'd it work out for world class recruiters like Brad Scott, Holtz and Spurrier recruiting down there ?
Anyone remember Spurrier's little blurb last year about Saban ? He said ."it's easy to coach at Bama with all the 4-5 stars" . To me, that's him admitting you can't recruit at USuC. Thoughts ?

To me it is Spurrier trying to limit his responsibility

for the success or failure of his team. He acts like recruiting is somebody else's job. If somebody would just go get him some great players, he could win it all!

True, but he also realized that you're not gonna recruit
Nov 17, 2015, 9:50 AM

at USuC the way He did at Florida or Saban does at Bama. That's why he had to throw a fit about 5 years ago with the previous AD about lowering the admission standards. Since then 28 recruits didn't even get into school. 4 star players that can get in elsewhere from out of state are going elsewhere, not USuC.

That one closed me out in logic . Lowered admissions standards for Coot football players ? When Spurrier threatened to quit over that one I was admittedly befuddled. How , I wondered , how many points would they have to come down to get the non-academic type kids they were looking at ? I bet all the other kids there already felt slighted , knowing that they had such a high standard just the year before . Spurrier : Gimme the dummies if you wanna win here .

He coached well at Duke with 2? and less , so it must indicate a decline in professional acumen .

Is that a HIPPA violation? Or since it's not medically related it doesn't count?

Notice I said "a rumor." Thus no rule broken. Non medical or patient related conversation. I specifically left out MD's name as well.

HIPAA protects patient's name from being associated with any work/treatment that they have had performed and private health information. This doesn't pertain to either. I think that you are thinking of attorney client privilege

Herman has only been at Houston one year....
Nov 17, 2015, 9:46 AM
|
|
so is it too early to consider Herman for a job like South Carolina's given his limited head coaching experience. Such a move could give the unflattering impression that Herman was simply using Houston as a stepping stone for a job at a Power 5 program.
Herman gets a lot of credit for "turning around" the Houston program, but the Houston metropolitan area has arguably some of the greatest collection of high school talent in the country and Houston was an 8 win team in back-to-back season before Herman arrived so he entered a very good situation unlike Morris at SMU.

I'm a realist and love college fb. Herman would be a good hire and he surely would bring in a duel threat qb. Hey it would help our strength of schedule every time we beat them.

but I'd be careful what I bet relative to someone who is apparently himself crazy enough to entertain coaching at that slum-hole called USuCk. I question the very sanity of anyone even thinking of going there given the hot mess the Coots are now.

I thought Herman would better served going to Missouri, but he may know more then we do regarding the current situation there in comparison to USCe. Personally I see him leaving USCe after a few years to return to a Texas school.

the only coaching job that south carolina is in "competition for is missouri.......so unless mizzou goes hard after him i don't see how herman ends up anywhere but south carolina
the real USC always goes against your "typical hot name" and prolly won't go after any of the same candidates that south carolina will.
VT i'd be shocked if it's not rich rod
Miami......similar to so cal.....not your typical coach that most schools would chase
so unless Texas parts ways with strong.......i have a hard time seeing herman go anywhere BUT south carolina.

You're assuming the current openings....
Nov 17, 2015, 10:35 AM
|

will be the only openings.
I don't think that's going to be the case.
If Herman is patient, and there is really no need for him not to be, he may have his choice of jobs.

depends on how long herman has to "accept" the offer.......
Nov 17, 2015, 10:45 AM
|
|
if tanner tells him he has a week to accept.
that forces his hand to either take a $3.5-$4.5+million dollar job now..........or roll the dice hoping for better by the end of the year.
herman would have no problem getting another "bigger" job than houston, but this year.....unless it's texas i don't see there being one that would offer that kind of money.
that being said.....there could be some unforeseen openings, but if tanner's smart he'll force herman's hand.
just my take on it.

There is always contract negotiations, but the source is on the Board at USC....of course, the way that Houston is playing, there may be a bidding war. If nothing changes, he is the man.
