I think the transfer portal has been good for parity in CFB

Nov 8, 2021, 10:21 AM

It is nice to see nonpower house programs benefit from players that could not earn starting jobs at elite programs but get a shot somewhere else. Programs like Cinncinatti, Wake Forrest, and UGA now have a shot against the big boys every few years because of the ability to take in players that got brushed aside to open up scholarships on elite teams. I think this makes the sport more exciting, seeing a team that traditionally loses get a shot on the national stage is kind of an underdog theme, and everyone loves an underdog.

Agree. Clawson is building something up at wake. They're actually getting new digs with 20 mil football donation. Very interesting read on how he's using metrics and technology on development. @colberttiger (sp) posted it a few days ago.

and he cries tears of joy every Saturday. He hasn't seen a successful season since he was a young child. I also try to be happy for him because I'm his only friend, which I believe is a common theme among UGA fans. Go Tigers

You are not very well versed in football if you think that..

Agree with all. I got a feeling Dabo will dip into the portal in the next year, just to compensate for transfers and injuries. He'll be very careful about which players he goes after, but I think he will do it. This year has been quite a lesson in how our roster can be depleted by COVID, injuries, and transfers.

Roster management will become critically important...

He and the staff have to account for the 12+ scholarship players lost to the transfer portal and you simply can't do that effectively with awarding these scholarships to walk-ons or relying on incoming freshman talent. This will eventually catch-up to you and negatively impact the teams quality depth.

Sorry but there is no definition that does include Georgia as a powerhouse. Other than that you are right but include the extra year for COVID and you hit it on the nose. Last week 8 ranked teams lost and that will continue.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.
