Trevor Lawrence

Mar 24, 2016, 12:52 PM

found this as I was catching up on some reading, T-Lawrence is quoted in a DawgNation article:

The sophomore said UGA, Clemson and Tennessee have consistently been at the top of his list. He plans to visit several schools over the next few months. Clemson has dropped behind UGA and Tennessee in his mind for the time being.

“Clemson actually has two 2017 (quarterbacks) now in Chase (Brice) and (Hunter Johnson) who had been committed to Tennessee that flipped,” Lawrence said. “They are both pretty good. I think that’s what brought Clemson down to number three from a number one like I would say they were a couple of months ago.”

good to know that we were No. 1 with him but the depth chart is something he is considering. hopefully, winning will take care of all this and he still signs with us in 2018.

That makes it sound like he's afraid of the competition. When DW4 gets drafted #1 and the next guy up performs at a high level maybe he'll see that completion is a good thing and even if he has to wait a year or so it will be well worth it. Go Tigers

He will have to compete no matter where he goes. Would be a good fit for Clemson. An uncommon talent.

Interesting because UGA has Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm so not sure how the depth chart looks more favorable to him. Oh well I'm not going to get tied up into what a kid with 2 years of HS football left is thinking. Will say that Tennessee is really counting on him being a Vol.

Amen. I think that speaks to Clemson's recruiting philosophy; being up front and saying "You're going to have to compete to earn anything." as opposed to "You're our guy, we guarantee this and that."

Never.... but I just caught that grammatical error... but that's not on me, I copied and pasted that from the article... ??

As a former English teacher once said, "commas save lives!" ??

Dakereon Joyner will be our 2018 QB commit. We'll be fine

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doubt it

Mar 24, 2016, 7:19 PM

I'm not sure we are even recruiting Joyner as a QB. I believe we have offered him as an athlete.

Also, Joyner said something recently that basically meant he was scared of the depth of the QB position at Clemson. If that's the case, then no thanks. I don't want any QB that is scared to compete for their position. No gimmes on the great teams.

Well I do remember seeing an old article on here saying that they offered him as a QB during one of their camps. I would hope that he didn't say he was scared though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I haven't seen this info about D. Joyner

Mar 24, 2016, 10:43 PM [ in reply to Doubt it ]

Not liking the depth chart at Clemson, but he was offered as a QB and will be given the opportunity to compete for the position. QBs today always evaluate the depth chart to consider how many and who will already be on campus and will have gotten experience when they get there, rather than who arrives at the same time. A log jam of freshmen and sophomores is not appealing to a recruit, now said recruit is comparing depth charts among favorites. However, winning championships makes most depth charts less of a factor...

Joyner is going to be a real good player at whatever position he chooses. I would have it as a coin flip between the two. Taking into account what we have already at QB and the fact that our O would still have a Vick type runner at QB. He can throw it 50 yards with accuracy as well. It's important we get one or the other.

I'll see if I can dig it up tomorrow. It was within the last couple of weeks.

Then I'll post it here

earned."

Guys who sign know that they have to compete to earn a starting position. As it should be with a program that is elite.
