recruit good enough talent. I think the issue has been a lack of those things with WR for example.

It’s a risky strategy these days since our recruiting and development have declined.***

You support brads poor efforts and criticize Dabo’s great work.
Says a lot about your character. Or lack there of.

Tbh it's hard to say that right now. I think talent is there, evaluations have been good, development i do question. I know you're going off the last 2 years and the spring game. I'd counter the QB had alot to do with wr performance the last 2 years. Also that injuries has been a bigger issue than anything(I still believe Batson has been a weak point for Clemson for years. Developing explosiveness and preventing injuries hasn't been great). Recruiting has not been as bad as people believe there's been 6 or so 4 star+ guys on the roster.
I'll 100% agree with a point you consistently make though the walkons and coaches sons getting full scholarships so easily is irritating and caused Clemson to slow down recruiting more viable talent. Dabo is more to blame than Grisham bc they could easily have another 2 or 3 guys on scholarship that were ranked recruits.
Depth has become an issue. I'll be in the same boat with you next offseason if Grishams guys don't play better this fall, I believe they will be improved greatly once all the cast is in place.

Explain to me how bringing in Joseph Ngata or E.J. Williams, Part II is going to do any good.
Bringing in more of the same is not going to help. The only thing that will help is someone elite, a la Mike Williams or Tee Higgins. Point to me where one of those guys is in the portal.

You build a program though recruiting and address minor needs with the portal when appropriate. Like now, we could definitely use a WR.

Our recruiting and development has declined because of friends, family, and alumni hires. Streeter was not the only coach that should have been replaced. Poor qb play for 2 years has set this program way back.

100%....fans overreact when they hear "PORTAL".....

Clemson needs 1-3 "quick fix" talent upgrades.........mainly at WR. Nobody asking Dabo to use the portal is asking him to build the program with transfers............those who jump to those conclusions are incapable of seeing the BIG PICTURE...........they think DJ was the cause for ALL PROBLEMS and that's simply not the case.

click the year filter to navigate past portal players through the years.
due to your apparent ignorance i'll pre-clarify something for you. The portal is like the housing market...........if you don't act quick the house you "want" isn't going to be there long. If you drag your feet and/or never make a move then your perception will be that "no house is out there for me"
Our WR group has been an issue for a couple years now compared to our 2015-2019 groups so navigate through the years in the filter and see for yourself.

Past portal players do no good. The issue is the present. You said in your previous post that Clemson "needs" (present tense) 2 or 3 quick fix receivers. Who are the receivers available now who will solve the problem?

we wouldn't have the "present" WR problems if addressed.....

in the past..........again, folks like you fail to look at BIG PICTURE..........your shortsightedness blinds you...............either that or your orange colored glasses are too orange.
We didn't just all of a sudden have WR problems. You can go through at many "present" points in time and see opportunities.
Again, if you've been in need of a house the last 2 years, but haven't been actively looking you can't blame it on "there's nothing out there for me" when you've had 2 years to look, but haven't.

I understand both sides. The portal can help a team but also hurt and the other side being recruits and current players look at how a team uses the portal. If a coach is using the portal then that tells a player or recruit that we don't think your good enough so lets dip in the portal and find someone. It helps teams such as South Carolina. Even though Rattler is not a great QB he is serviceable and helped South Carolina to 8 wins last year. If he wasn't there then they might have won 4 games. So Dabo is around players everyday and he knows the talk of what the players are saying about the portal. But in the end if Clemson has a hole to fill that they are weak at and the player in that position isn't quite good enough to play at the level Dabo needs then he should use the portal.

isn't that the same thing when a coach names "starters".....
Apr 20, 2023, 9:06 AM

you're saying the others aren't as good as the starter........Right??
I don't think STRATEGICALLY utilizing the portal "HURTS" any program. Each team should utilize to fit their needs. If a 1-11 Colorado team needs some QUICK talent infusion and the portal can help that..........why not???
If a solid Clemson team 1-2 "holes" or weak spots that need shored up and the portal can help.........why not???
If a talent rich Bama or UGA team wants even more talent than their current 5star freshman.........why not???
I don't like the NIL or Portal any more than the next fan, but it's here and it ain't going anywhere.
