I did see Neon Deon, and saw the Punt Rooskie. But I think that I saw Joe Montana lead Notre Dame to a victory in the Valley in the late 1970's and Dan Devine was their coach. On the way off the field, I remember Dan Devine flipped a bird at our crowd. We almost got those guys.

I'd have to say Calvin Johnson or, as much as I disliked these guys, Jameis Winston or Clowney. Clowney put on a clinic in the 2012 game and Winston did likewise in 2013.

Anyone pre-1980?
Montana earned the reputation as “ the comeback kid” , had two come from behind wins in the 4th quarter against Purdue and Clemson. Down 17 and 10 respectably.

Most talented player is pretty close between Clowney and Calvin Johnson even though I believe we held Johnson without a catch in '06. The defensive scheme against Johnson was maybe the most effective I have ever seen at stopping a dominant WR.
Greatest single game performance by an opposing player has to be Lamar Jackson for me. What he did in '16 against a national champion defense was absolutely remarkable. I can appreciate it much more since we were able to outscore him and his WR let him down at the end.

If Gurley would not have had leg issues/cramping in the game in the Valley I think we would have lost. IIRC he took the second half kickoff to the house. He was in and out of that game.

There are some great players that have been mentioned. I have thought about this question and have come up with two names that have not been mentioned. Kevin Butler and Doug Flutie. Kevin is probably one of the best kickers that has ever played against us. Flutie, his height, and playing ability do not make sense. He had two great games against us.

what can you do.... that wasn't the story though..it was that dang botched snap to the punter with 17 seconds left in the game. Just get the freaking punt off and you probably win. Instead...uuuughhhhh. Thats the first time my wife (girlfriend at the time) saw the crazy fan side of me in the stands...i was red faced and screaming like my dad in lower level section D. happened right in front of us. And i had a feeling it was coming. We were playing our usual Tommy Bowden "trying not to lose" for the entire 2nd half.

I'd say several were about equal.
Ken "snake" Stabler - Bama/Raiders Joe Montana - ND/San Fran Deion - FSU/etc Herschel - UGA/etc J. Peppers Clowney
And it was just fun as a kid watching Bear Bryant prowl the sidelines at DV.

I could probably win a lot of Clemson Football trivia contests (at least from the 70s-present)... but I don’t think I had any idea JJ Watt played in the Valley for Central Michigan. Pretty cool tidbit.

Herschel Walker. Hands down. Although we shut him down that day and I believes UGay had like 9 turnovers

Don McCauley or Anquan Boldin on that given day. I saw Joe Montana play at DV. He was the best.

I'd say Herschel though he did not show it against us in 81 and in 80 twixt the hedges they were hardly playing him yet. I remember two plays in particular: 80 against Tenn a DB his size got into a head on collision and Herschel literally ran over him, Then against the dirtpeckers that same year in the big matchup with George Rodgers it was close and I think the poultry actually led, Herschel was running wide, a chicken DM clearly had the angle on him but Herschel just put it in another gear, flanked the guy, and ended up in the end zone with 15 yards of space on the guy.

I seem to remember Matt Shaub and Phillip Rivers tearing our secondary up at will back in the day. I HATED those two. It seemed like every time the ball left their hand it was a first down or worse

It's been awhile, but Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley for Auburn were amazing. In 1969 they beat us 51-0,1970 44-0 & 1971 35-14
