Tony Elliott on the run game
Oct 13, 2017, 11:45 PM
|
|
Off coordinator Tony Elliott says he thinks they abandoned the run too early. Said maybe there was some panic early and got away from it. Also says they thought they would be able to use Kelly Bryant a little in the run game, just roll him out. Said there were a few third down runs he thinks Bryant would have gotten if healthy. Says Cooper has been the solid No. 2 guy

He sort of looked a bit like #2 in the downfield passing game...

Agree, Backs only ran 15 times, poor play calling, and no downfield passing plus pass routes are less than creative. Defense wasn't prepared either.

Hard to pass downfield with no blocking.

if you didn't think we needed to abandon the run, then why did you abandon the run? You're the guy calling the plays.

How did you think KB could run???

That baffles me. And sorry I don't see from actual game performance how ZC is a solid #2 QB.

Cooper has been missing missing 15+ yard throws by about

15 yards. Decent accuracy on short passes, but he's missing guys down the field by a full zip code.
Also, I hated our last drive of the 1st half. Things were already going poorly, but it really started to unravel there. With Bryant limping badly and basically a sitting duck in the pocket, we bring in Fuller at RB (basically means we aren't going to try to run the ball) and go 100% pass despite having 3 min and 3 TO and getting the ball with great field position (our own 40-45 i think).
We had tons of time to mix in some runs there on that drive and keep them from teeing off on a clearly hobbled Bryant.

I agree, that was an extremely poor series of play calls.

Handing off to our running backs would have been the BEST option since Bryant couldn't run and had zero business sitting back in the pocket being hit.

the QB isnt part of it. We could have, and shouls have run the ball all night last night. Play calling killed several drives by putting us behind the sticks on first down on numerous occasions.
