Tony Elliot probably got out at the right time

Another year with DJ would have hurt his coaching chances and VA was last power 5 chance. He probably doesn’t want to pursue DJ transfer. Hope he can bounce back at VA moving forward.

That's funny!
Everybody wants to give all the credit to Jeff Scott.
But, Jeff Scott gives all the credit "rightfully so" to Tony Elliott.
The primary play-caller for not 1; but two National Championship teams!
But, belief what you will. I believe that p.o.v comes from other things not related to football. Because the football people in the know; clearly think far higher of what Tony Elliott knows. And, what he has accomplished is based on merit.

All those years Georgia, Florida, and LSU had far superior talent - but were going to the Independence bowl and Continental tire bowl, and so on - how come they didn't win any?
Somebody knew something! If those coaches who were there every day give the man credit. How come so many fans don't? Based on what evidence?

So, your mind is made up year 1. At a place like UVA that isn't a powerhouse by any means?
No opportunity to: get his players for his system? No opportunity to develop a culture change? No opportunity to get the right coaches in place?
He's supposed to be so great; he can win 8 or more games in year 1?
That's incredibly unfair and unrealistic!

Mike Norvell at a school like FSU who has more talent per recruiting class than the majority of the ACC was 3-6 his first season at FSU.
Followed that up with a 5-7 record.
Mind you: "at a school like FSU who despite being down has still recruited well"!
But, he gets a chance? Tony Elliott does'nt; why?
It's not like he inherited a ton of talent.
I think I get it.

When get a Head coach job at a school like UVA, you are not getting out, you are getting in. Just as a reminder, we are 11-2 and playing in the Orange Bowl in case you just got out of a coma.

Tony will have another bad season unless he gets some portal guys. He had some decent players leave by graduation and portal.

Unfortunately he should have kept OC already there and the offensive scheme for at least 1 year. He blew his chance for a winning season when he changed those his first year.

Eliot had no chance as far as the offense side of the ball this first year of his at UVA.
The entire starting OL from 2021 season had departed. 2021 OL was good for them, but UVA isn’t one of those places where 2nd and 3rd team OL are filled with stars in waiting.
Many inattentive observers wondered why their stud QB (based on his 2021 play) regressed into a sub-par QB in 2022.
QB’s poor play in 2022 had nothing to do with T.Eliot’s coaching or play calling.

Coach Elliott inherited a dumpster fire. I mean the players are getting into shootouts. I’m giving him a break and hoping he pulls it together. That said, he ain’t even sniffing DJ. Elliott is an offensive genius and needs a confident passer to execute his plays not another project he needs to fix!

Give him time. I think TE deserves at least 4 years. Plus he deserves a 1st pass after the murder of 2 or 3 of his players. I believe Tony Elliot will be successful at Virginia. TE, his family, the team, the families of the murdered players and the University will be in the prayers of many people. It takes time to change the culture of a program. IMO Tony deserves that time. We gave it to Dabo and look at the results from Dabo. I believe TE has the ability to build a similar successful program.
