other teams don't score much on his defenses. I listened to a reporter that covers Penn State talking about Allen. He said Allen does not actually blitz alot or make overt defensive plays trying to sack the QB. Those are risky to him. The philosophy is that selling out to sack the QB are the plays that give up the big yards or get the huge loss sacks. Hero or zero plays. What he does really well is just stop you from going anywhere at all. Just good hard nosed defense that stops the runs and covers the passes.
I am really looking forward to what he can do with our defense.

I watched/listened something the other day from a Penn State You Tuber breaking down Tom Allen's defense way before his move to Clemson. I found it interesting in that he described Coach Allen's defensive philosophy as not involving exotic blitzes by the DL, but he does utilize his backend and more specifically his secondary in pretty creative ways to cover all offensive receivers. It seems his logic is stay true to your gaps on the DL/Edge and cover everyone the backend...very interesting approach to me. His results have been really good in a tough conference. I so ready to see us stopping opposing offenses to give the ball to Riley and Klubnik not to mention keeping our defense fresh. When is the Spring Game in 2025, stop the #### ball!!!

That is not unlike the NBA all-star game in its authenticity of passionate play.

program’s history IMHO. His defense was high risk/ high reward and very vulnerable at times. Watching us get burned by the wheel route was frustrating. Allowing ND to come back after basically blowing them out in 2015 was frustrating. Watching Lamar Jackson and Louisville go down to the wire in 2016 when we had them routed was frustrating BUT those defenses were tough. They made the critical stops at the right time. Best games we’ve ever seen? Definitely but I couldn’t help but think how unnecessary some of those finishes would’ve been if we did not let out of the gas on offense and give up the big plays on defense.
I like the thought of a defense that doesn’t give up the big play. Hopefully Tom Allen’s defense will add some more years to our lives that Brent’s took off. Lol

He concocted the system of keeping the games close and forcing the defense to win the game. He wanted tough troops and often manufactured adversity regularly. I realized this about a decade ago and relaxed but by then what hair I had left was all nearly white.

Pat Narduzzi type. In the break downs I saw looks like the DEs will be dropping into coverage every so often when the lbs come. Lot of fire zone pressure designs. Not a send more than you can block guy but rather send from varying places and confuse the OL and QB.

The defense you're describing is designed to avoid chunk plays, get off the field and give your offense the ball...... something we desperately need to learn how to do.
I like it.
