Panic Now in Athens

Georgia's now down to just 2 starters returning on offense for this fall. Are losing a lot of people to the draft or transfer portal, not to mention graduation.
And now with Jake Fromm gone, there's talk of going after the Wake Forest QB who entered the transfer portal.
Not seeing good things for them this fall. Will be time for the Florida Gators to take over the SEC East.

The Chickens need to take this in stages. According to the CBS poll, they need to cycle in over the likes of Ark State, Buffalo, App State, Charlotte, Wake, UAB etc before they even think about UGa. Ha ha ha ha ha!

Just means they're going to have to rely on coaching.

Makes no difference. They will still be ranked in the Top 5, even after losing to the chickens again.

Wow, Florida or Tennessee... or Kentucky.
Is the SEC the next ACC Coastal?

They currently have...
Jan 9, 2020, 11:16 AM
|
|
D’Wan Mathis: Not a real option IMO. He underwent emergency brain surgery last spring so I'm not sure he's even been cleared for contact.
Stetson Bennett: Bennett is Fromm’s backup but hasn't really seen any meaningful PT other than in a mop-up role.
Who’s coming in?
Carson Beck: Beck is rated as the No. 8 pro-style QB in the country but didn't have a great Senior season.
Who's available via the transfer portal? There are currently six (6) former 4-star QB's in the transfer portal
Feleipe Franks, Florida Injuries limited Franks to just four games in 2019. But he was completing over 76-percent of his passes when his season ended in mid-October.
KJ Costello, Stanford After two years as a starter for David Shaw, Costello appeared in just five games in 2019. He’s looking to play elsewhere as a graduate transfer in 2020.
Phil Jurkovec, Notre Dame The Notre Dame sophomore went 12-of-15 in 2019, but doesn’t seem too eager to play behind Ian Book in 2020.
Jack Allison, West Virginia Originally poised to get a bigger role in 2019, Oklahoma transfer Austin Kendall won the job and relegated Allison to spot duty.
Dillon Sterling-Cole, Arizona State Sterling-Cole hasn’t had a completion since 2016. And after the stellar freshman season from Jayden Daniels, he probably won’t get too many chances to correct that if he stays in Tempe.
Justin Rogers, TCU With just one pass thrown in two years for the Horned Frogs, the former top-50 quarterback is ready to leave.
Jamie Newman, Wake Forest Newman, a 3-star prospect out of high school, had a 10-6 record as a starting quarterback with the Demon Deacons, taking over the position at the end of the 2018 season and starting every game but one in 2019. Wake Forest's offense has relied on reads and option plays run at a fast tempo with Newman at quarterback. He finished the season ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in the ACC. Newman will become a top target in the transfer portal thanks to his ability to run an up-tempo, dual-threat attack. Newman's 26 passing touchdowns in 2019 rank among the top 25 nationally and he added 574 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

If UGA sticks with a pro-style offense

Newman from WF won't be an option. I can't see him going somewhere that doesn't run an offense that maximizes his skills.
Costello has probably been in a similar offense, but I doubt he's as good as Fromm was so that would still be a step back.
Certainly we've all seen enough of Franks to know he's hot garbage. UF loses to KY if he doesn't get hurt and he's the reason they almost lost to Miami. Every now and then he gets hot but for the most part he's a human 3-and-out.
I really don't know much about the rest of the field, but until UGA shows they can be a bit more creative offensively I'm not sure how much QB talent they'll attract.

He's from Loganville.
That said, although I may be mistaken, I don't think UGa really recruited him or offered him out of high school.

May not have but would that be the former staff not present one? Or maybe they'd look at it differently now. Who knows?

I watched a couple uga games this year.
Based on what I saw, I'd think the more offensive players they lost, the more optimistic they'd be.

Even if they plug the QB hole with a decent transfer, UGA still might not win the SEC East in 2020, much less the SEC championship game.
Next year doesn't look the best but long term I expect they will continue controlling their side of the conference.

With the SEC being down again next year, I could easily see the gators losing to us in the semi final round.
