It's hard to forget things you've seen, and for years there was a stigma associated with getting help. That perception is slowly changing and people are reaching out for help, but too late for some.
Can't speak to anyone's specific situation...

It unfortunately is very real. I lost my oldest son in November of 2023. He was a Army veteran in the 160th SOAR. My heart goes out to all those who struggle with suicidal thoughts, especially the men and women who have served this country.

Very sad. Prayers for our veterans.
My dad served in the Korean War. He suffered from PTSD for the rest of his life.

Nothing to do with guns as we could kill our selves in many ways.

But guns are icky and scary. Especially black guns with the thing that goes up.
The "librarian" at kids' elementary schools these days, with pink and blue hair and several piercings, is totally safe to have around children though. Totally.

I agree with tugalooriver®, the gun was just an avenue. Not by any means saying it is not a horrible occurrence, especially when it involves a veteran.

Definitely makes it easier, but in the end it isn't the issue as tug stated.

Then why are guns the choice of the majority of suicide? It's not an "either/or"

and there is changing your mind. You down a bottle of pills, or slit your wrists, you have plenty of time to call the emergency room or be found by a loved one, not so much with a gunshot to the head, I think the success rate is around 95%

Friend of mine killed himself a couple years after returning from his last tour(wasn't with a gun but still). He really struggled with going from dealing with life and death situations on a daily basis, and seeing some pretty ####ed up stuff, to returning to a corporate environment where most of what he dealt with with was basically your usual corporate BS that doesnt really matter in the sceme of things but being surrounded by people who thought every report, deadline, etc was the end of the world. Being in life and death situations really gave him perspective on what's important in life and a missing TPS report wasn't it. Stuff like that and just dealing with society's petty shallow nonsense in general were things he could no longer reconcile with his military life and he decided to leave this world as a result. And this was one of the happiest, funniest guys you'd ever hope to be around before his military career so it's not like he was always predisposed to dark thoughts or whatever. Keep an eye on your veterans, especially the ones who saw a lot of hot action because they may be struggling more than you know.
