I’ve always been a huge SNL fan, I understand they are liberal and I can appreciate a good joke. But it’s literally every opening scene since trump was elected is making fun of trump. When Biden was president they would rarely make fun of him (they started when he left the race).
Half the weekend update jokes are just about trump or Vance etc. it’s just getting unbearable and completely one sided. Which sucks bc I’ve always loved the show and watched it every weekend.

How many newsworthy things did Biden do or say in a given week?

Trump is providing daily fodder, the kind of stuff the US has never seen from a President. And it doesn't help that he's not hiding his mental decline like Biden's handlers did, he's just out there spilling his verbal diarrhea for all to see.

Yes - far, far too much buffoonery to pull from - this admin is the most ridiculous and deservedly mocked situation on the planet at the moment. Maybe something will come along to supplant "his dominance"?

I voted for the dumbfvck over Hillary thinking he’d calm down and act Presidential. Proved me wrong in mere weeks. I would’ve voted for my dog over Dumb Donald the second time around, and growls at mirrors.

There was a component of feeling bad for Biden as he was generally seen as a likable guy in decline as opposed to Trump's image of a powerful and generally unliked (other than for his money or power) guy who on top of saying and doing crazy stuff, also chooses to be rude and mean to folks nearly daily.

Yes - pitiful vs an as sclown. Neither of which belongs in a position of power, certainly not the Presidency.

given the stuff the Trump and his admin do on a daily basis and SNK having a guy that plays him so well, they'd be crazy not to do that stuff.
Also, they did a lot of cold opens with Biden over his yrs in office.
This one was pretty funny:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dJsVHS9zZY&ab_channel=SaturdayNightLive
My wife and I were actually watching old SNL's last night and we watched one with Will Ferrell playing Bush. We both said that the difference in Trump vs others is that with the others, the actor had to create some kind of caricature of the President and with Trump, they basically have to sound/act like him and just largely repeat what he actual said or did.

The political one sidedness of SNL predates the Trump or Biden Presidency.

I'll definitely disagree with you on that. Especially with Obama. All the "humor" that I saw regarding Obama seemed to intentionally put him in a good light and never anything really negative. Admittedly, I didn't watch every episode, so I may have missed something.
Bush was always portrayed as a doltish idiot - while I did not care for Bush as a President, he was not what a lot of people tried portray.

Trump has been a mockable character for a long time. Far predating his political run or his presidency. Even absent his administration's bafoonery, there is also the simple component that he's seen as an unlikable A-Hole with New York familiarity and connections. That certainly plays into the opinions of a NY centric show and cast.

Yes, Trump is too easily mockable, so Trump is a bit of a different story. And, I really don't care who they mock or how they mock them. It's just a TV show. It's not surprising that the writers and actors of a show in a city like New York would paint a Dem in a more favorable light than a Pub. Seems par for the course.

Obama was always painted in a good light, Bush was painted as a doofus. Biden they only made fun of for being senile after he dropped out. I can enjoy it and it’s funny, but literally every opening scene is trump?

or maybe you can just skip the opener? Anywya, like everyone else said, the jokes write themselves under this administration, it is a great time to be a comedian, and of course, the man deserves every ounce of mockery he receives. He can dish it out, but being the snowflake he is, can not take it in return.

WELL, I am just poking fun with you, I don't get offended easily, certainly not by conservatives. But they skewered him in his first term as well, Alec Baldwin made him look incredibly stupid, where this new guy sort of portrays him as a confused old grampa. I don't watch the show, I find the trump sketches kind of lame myself. But it is all about ratings and clicks. . If they are leaning into the trump bits, it means their ratings are responding well to it.

2 reasons: Trump is a cartoonish caricature and the guy that does Trump is good
May 21, 2025, 5:03 PM
|
|
They also found an opening formula that really works. Having Trump basically do a stand-up routine is not only funny but also allows them to tackle multiple Trump-related news stories.
As for Biden, they could never find a good read on Biden other than he's old and they never had a cast member with a good Biden impression. (They brought on Jim Carrey to do it and even then it was "meh")

They have a great impersonator, and he pretty much just goes out there and repeat things Trump has said himself. Elect a clown, and this is what you get. When he got elected the only positive was that we were getting 4 years of great comedy.
