Have there ever been any third place ACC teams left out of the NCAA Tournament?

I certainly can’t remember any.
It’s a huge snub regardless. I’m livid.

First time since 2000 that the third place ACC team has been left out

Virginia was 19-12 overall, 9-7 in the ACC that year.
I can see why they didn’t make it, compared to our 23-10 and 14-6 this year.

It’s specifically accurate and extremely relevant to why we did not get a bid. “3rd in ACC” is like the Coots chanting “SEC SEC”. It doesn’t matter one bit when you look at the whole picture.

I'm not arguing that there weren't valid reasons we didnt make it in...
But, the gamecocks chanting SEC are doing so in a league they didn't perform well in... that is NOT the situation here.

For the ACC it’s an all time embarrassment

They’re now a lesser conference in basketball than the Mountain West. With Wake not getting in with their record last year, and now Clemson and UNC missing this year, the conference isn’t even a top Mid-Major conference, in basketball. That’s troubling, and does not bode well for a conference that’s already considered a sinking ship in football.

What's troubling is the ranking system that is used to determine that. The ACC would destroy the mountain west in a matchup style similar to the ACC Big 10 challenge.

The ACC’s 5 teams in the NCAA Tournament ranked fourth this year.
Big 10 - 8 teams SEC - 8 teams Big XII - 7 teams ACC - 5 teams PAC-12 - 4 teams
The Mountain West, which you said is better, had 4 teams.
Which mid-major conferences had better than 5?

It’s not a snub, we put ourselves in this position by no winning the games we should undoubtedly win. Beat historically bad Louisville and USuck and we are easily in, we have no one to blame but ourselves.
