He's right, nobody does have a lifetime contract to the CFP. But you can't just sit back and let another TOP 3 Defensive unit go to waste all be cause of the offense not doing their part. Playing loyalty when there's a pretty good shot that another guy can spark the offense the way it use to be is unfair to the other guys and the defense. I think deep down the players know which guy is best fit to get the job done and alot of times they put in that much more effort on the field when the right guy is in. Still going to be interesting to see how this one plays out. I think DJ is a great guy and he has improved, I just feel he's maxed out at what he brings to the table for this football team, he is what he is with us. And I put it like this...we can't rely on block punts and short fields the whole game like Mon night....and I know you take points however you can get them. So if you had a whole game where you had to go 65-70+ yards every drive, which QB is going to lead to more points in that game?

I think the difference between this season and 2018 was that year Clemson opened at Tex A&M. The heat was on from the start. Dabo knew that and knew that if things were a little dicey (which they were), he was going to put Lawrence in early.
This year Dabo probably feels he has 3 full games without much of a threat to lose even if offense plays average. *Fortunately on Monday special teams stepped up and made that game easier than it appeared it was going to be in the 1st half.
That being said I think we’ll see more Cade this week and probably the same next.
Then when Clemson goes to Wake it’s sort of like 2018 at Tex A&M. If Clemson needs a spark, Cade is coming in. Dabo isn’t going to wait til Clemson is down 2 scores late in the 4th for the lightbulb to come on.
I know nobody wants to accept it but this is the new college football. Just like he said nobody has a lifetime contract as a starter, you also don’t have a player for guaranteed 3-4 years anymore.

I agree. I think somewhere in the Wake-FSU run DJ will struggle and Cade will get a shot with the game on the line. If he takes charge then that will be it.

Beating a dead horse into oblivion, but Dabo has a plan - this is a gradual process - Cade will become starter by 4th-5th game (probably the 4th for eligibility reason for DJ). Hey, if DW had to wait until 4th game in 2014 (UNC game), and TL had to wait until 4th game in 2018 (GT), the Cade is going to wait a bit too, until the time is right. And to be fair, the talent gap was probably a little bit wider for the last 2 starter changes. Patience young grasshopper.

If DJ gets bounced like KB did he’s gonna do the same thing and immediate transfer out.

As was reinforced today, Dabo is paid to make decisions on his players and he will. My strong guess is he does not give a rats @#$ what any fans think because we don't get a vote.

Agree on everything you said, except for the vote. At some point, when a coach doesnt win enough, alumni het a big vote. But wholeheartedly agree on your view of Dabo. Hes there to develop boys into men. He is going to give DJ every opportunity to perform, but he will yank the "starter" tag when he feels its right.
DJ plays the first half of the next 2 games. Cade plays 3rd. Hunter and the other 2 get the 4th

I think you missed a key phrase Dabo added about Cade deserving a shot to play “in the flow of the game”. That means he needs time with the starters which means a drive or two in the first half. Unfortunately we can’t even assume with our current offense with the starters playing the entire first half that we could hang 30 on Furman or La Tech so Cade doesn’t need to sit until the 3rd quarter.

I don't know honestly if Cade is a better QB right now than DJ, but if I was a betting man, no doubt I would put my money on Cade was the best QB in that room. Yes he wowed me, and the little bit of time we saw him, it made me feel that I was watching DW4 all over again, but I think Cade is going to be a 2.0 of DW4 bc, I think he is a little quicker than DW4 was.
In the past 10 years minus DW4 and TL, bc those two QBs got really good the longer they were at Clemson... But if you was to ask me what QB that I thought was better out of TB-10, CS-18, or DJ-5, I would rate them in the order that I put in, absolutely I would!!!

His choice of words here is the strongest way he can say it.
His continued "faint praise" for DJ since the summer was enough for me, so just leave it to Dabo. Cade should get a lot of time on the field the next couple of games, hopefully much of it with the first team. Hunter probably gets some snaps also.
As long as we don't lose games because of DJ, it's all good. Remember, Dabo navigated this twice before very successfully.

The Stoudt/DW4 "competition" was a joke and botched from the get go.............we DEFINITELY win in Tallahassee if DW4 plays the entire game..........but that was Dabo's first go at a "QB controversy"
He'll make the right call this year when/if it needs to be made..........I have bigger concerns at WR than QB anyway........we shall see.

Interesting take. Disagree on stoudt the way it was managed but, your opinion.
As to wide receivers. Last year was an annomaly because of injuries. Still, if you go by the HS ratings on our receiver room it's pretty consistent since 2015 with the exception of Renfrow... Obviously he wanted it and got the development he needed. Again, an annomaly.
So, here's my point. Recruiting wise seems consistent based on HS rank. What changed? Jeff Scott. Was he better able to identify talent? Was he better at developing talent? I can't answer that but you could make a reasonable argument.

The way that the coaches put stoudt in a position to be dominant was as masterful a job as I’ve seen.

What changed? QB IMHO.
Did you notice that Drew Swinney played like a 1st team All-ACC performer in the final drive? There is an art to the QB positioning his receivers & defenders and delivering the ball at the optimal split second.

The writing is on the wall. Cade will take the job by the 4 th game. If not we’re screwed, because Cade’s not what we think he is and if he’s not clearly better than DJ we can kiss the playoffs goodbye. There’s absolutely no way DJ is good enough to get us there. He’s too slow, doesn’t make quick enough decisions and just doesn’t have the intangibles it takes at this level.

Dabo has had 4, yes 4 difficult QB transitions as HC. IMO he has handled them perfectly. I have 100% confidence that he will do the same here.

Agreed... when playing at pace it reminded me of TB10 in the way that his decisions and passes were much better when he didn't have time to think about it. When time was there there was a lot of overthinking... Tells me that his instincts are good, but in the end I think it will be Cade's job.

What makes you think we definitely win against FSU with Watson starting the whole game? Watson came in down 3-0 and we went on to lead the game 10-3 and 17-10 at different points. We had a 2nd and goal from the 1 with Watson in that resulted in no points due to a bad snap and missed FG. Late with the game tied we fumbled the ball inside the FSU 20. Then we failed to even score in overtime. Not sure how you figure we would’ve won for sure with Watson playing like 2 extra series since we blew multiple leads and managed to score only 7 points in the 2nd half/overtime with Watson playing.

It would've never been in OT had Cole hit our wide open Tight End (i believe Leggett, but not positive) rolling to his right and throwing the ball at his shoe laces from 10 yards away. And yes, Lakip missed the FG on that drive, but we should've had at least 6.
If you remember later in the 2nd half DW4 hit JL on the EXACT same pass for a gain of 15 and first down inside the 5 yd line setting up a TD.

It was something to watch Monday how Cade moved the offense and the quick decisions he made. I think eventually he could take over whenever that will be. My concern is the offensive line, when are they going to step it up?

They way Cade can move the pocket he could make this O-Line look much better. This online is not much different than what we had in 2015-2016.

I think Randy Travis sung it best “It’s just a matter of time”
That being said, I just feel Cade made more timely decisions, but against an already worn down GaTech defense. But was very accurate, which is something DJ has historically struggled with..
We shall see what transpires against fresh defenses in the upcoming weeks.
Hopefully he is everything we all hope he is.

Key words were “flow of the game”. Klubnick will see time earlier,….it’s time and Dabo is “coach speaking” for those who understand.
