The Old Ball Sac should know. He got the Heyall out of

Jul 13, 2022, 11:11 AM

Cooterville when it became plain that he was about to have a losing record against Clemson, after winning five in a row. He bailed out before it could happen.

Could you imagine what he would have had to say about losing to The Citadel, if he had still been there? He must have seen the writing on the wall, and got out just in time.

:)

The further he leaves Cootlumbia the more I have begun to like him . He has been complimentary of Clemson . Just needs the coot stink off of him

Though he irritated the heck out of me for 1-2 years at Duke and during the 5 year streak at sc, I have always thought he is was one heck of a coach. He probably worked the least amount of hours of any successful coach.

Steve most certainly got under my skin while in cootlumbia, but I have always thought he was a good HC, and he was one of the best HC's that called his own offensive game plan!!!

That’s great of him to form his opinion of Clemson joining the SEC in 2022+ based on what he thought of Clemson 35 years ago.

Is there some point here? Of course we "fit" whatever that means into any conference in the country based on football talent. We don't need a washed out old coach to affirm that.

This is just weird

Jul 13, 2022, 1:53 PM

I like it. I mean, it feels like a huge compliment outright rather than an answer on the far future of college football (albeit in an extremely short response & article), especially this part:
"They just lined up and tried to smash you. That was their style of offense. Their defensive guys were a little bit bigger, a little bit faster. They just lined up and tried to smash you."

I get his point, & I agree with Clemson's physicality (weird!) but it just seems strange that he said more good about Clemson than really giving more information on the far (potential) future of college football, know what I mean?

Meaningless article.
I do not care what Spurrier thinks.

He was trying to give Clemson a compliment. He was a good HC and OC. He left Usuc high and dry ??????????

Flame me if you want, but I actually like Spurrier

Jul 13, 2022, 3:46 PM

He's one of a kind and there will never be another like him.

At UF, his clowning of FSU and UGA was legendary. He took those nasty rivalries and made them nastier with his sharp tongue and usually backed it up.

I know many here grew to despise him while at USCe, but believe me, he didn't really clown on Clemson all that much. He DID keep me laughing by continuing to fire away at UGA. In fact, he made the early-season USCe/UGA games a must-watch for me for several years.

Anyway, he's speaking his mind here and paying us a sincere compliment.

Let the hatred go. The Ole Ball Coach was great for college football during his day.

No doubt, he performed magic at usuc. Nobody else ever has been able to do so much with so little so often as he did at usuc.

I can’t think of anything in sports that annoys me more than someone saying ‘the ole ball coach’.

Just stop it already. Spurrier was a great coach, but an awful human being and I don’t care what he thinks
