If Dabo and staff wanted him, that says a lot. But I’m going to ask the obvious question that everyone else seems afraid to ask:
6’6” 215 Defensive Lineman?? If he was 240, 245, that would seem light for a guy that tall... but 215??? He sounds more like a wide receiver body type than a DL at this level. In high school it can work... but he’s going to have to put on at least 40-45 pounds or he’s just going to bounce off OL at this level. Seems like an obvious redshirt coming in.
other than he performed well in high school and Dabo believes in him enough to offer the scolly. And 40 lbs added at 6’6” just begins to get him in the ball park for a defensive lineman... unless this guy is some kind of hybrid freak specimen like Isaiah Simmons. Maybe he is... I still see a red shirt in his future if he’s going to stay at DE.
If he is 230 going into his senior season at 16-17 years old, getting him to 250-260 by his 2nd or 3rd season at Clemson should be doable. Foreman will be a much better freshman, but Zaire has a chance, at 6'7" and 250 to be a better player before he leaves. We don't need him as a freshman, but he could be outstanding when he grows up a little. Major upside. His tape screams Julius Peppers to be. When he hits, the ball seems to always come out. Plus the tip and catch interceptions bring back nightmares of Peppers vs. Clemson when at UNC.
