Did he really mention facilities and resources? I didn't think we had any and we needed some to attract talent.

Another excuse debunked.

Hey Neff, scratch that stupid bball 40 mil junk. Funnel it to baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and lacrosse. Perhaps we could then get a men's lacrosse team.

Yes, we have better basketball facilities and resources

than Air Force. Congratulations!

And we absolutely need the new basketball building. If we care about being a perennial NCAA Tournament team and consistently being a top tier ACC team, it has to happen - not because facilities win games, but because facilities show the world that Clemson cares about basketball and helps recruit elite athletes.

Funding isn't the reason we don't have men's lacrosse. Title IX is. I'm sure Clemson would be happy to add a men's lacrosse team, but which women's sport are we going to add to allow for that? Field hockey?

How do the Clemson facilities compare to Morehead State or Loyola Chicago?

Just curious...

You can't compare resources, etc. to teams like those. You have to compare the support to the teams that you compete the most against, i.e., the ACC and other Power 5 teams. That being said, the NCAAT and postseason is terrible. It lends itself to upsets. It's the reason the NBA has series. It removes flukes; however, the casual fan loves the NCAAT for that exact reason.

Let's be honest...

if Clemson really cared about being a perennial NCAA Tournament team and a consistent top tier team in the ACC (or whatever conference), Coach Brad Brownell would have been fired years ago.

While I agree that top-tier facilities show the world that Clemson cares about basketball which helps recruit elite athletes, so does having a coach that can produce more than just inconsistent and mediocre results.

I don't understand why our basketball coach

1

should be expected to have consistent NCAA Tournament teams when he doesn't have the support commensurate with that.

It's like Wake Forest football fans expecting them to be a top 25 team every year despite them having a poor football history, low football investment, and low fan support. Sure, they can have a good year here and there, but sustained success is nearly impossible for them. That's not due to their coach, it's due to their history and the way they support their program.

It's the same for Clemson basketball, and our history proves it: a really good year here and there, but no sustained success because the consistent support isn't there. If we want to change that, we need to support it better.

This isn't rocket surgery.

Will Neff and Brownell display the “We think we’re an NCAA team” and the NIT participation trophies prominently in the new building?

I'm confused. What new BB facility is needed? If not mistaken, seem to recall LJ was completely redone from the foundation not long ago. A new practice facility was also built, supposedly with a good bit of CBB's input. If this isn't sufficient to support the program, then the money for all that was basically flushed.

They are saying some new operations facility which seems like a waste of money.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why is it a waste of money?

May 3, 2023, 1:17 PM

Don't you want our program to be as well-supported as possible?

Yeah and leave football parking alone gosh dangit!

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

A welcome addition who's a proven scorer at the college

2

May 3, 2023, 12:49 PM

level. A 6'5" guard who averaged 15 points, 40% from 3 and 2yrs playing experience will be a valuable contributor. Maybe not a starter anytime real soon but hopefully his "Indiana bball IQ" will help get him in the rotation quickly. Still really need at least one more BIG however.
