Super glad that this excellent LB developmental guy wanted to come here. We needed LB’s and we were the right fit for him.
Go Tigers!

Well, I pray this guy becomes the next Simmons or Nolan Turner etc. I'm not disappointed nor disputing his fit.
But I disagree with Dabo's false (imo) narrative that we couldn't get a kid like this if it weren't for the portal. We have kids like this sending film to us by the bucket fulls.
The portal is cram full with these type guys who get picked up by teams, never get pt and end up transferring down a level. MOST OF our portal entries are guys like this. Before you TD this post, I'm NOT saying this guys a dud.
I still contend it's a false narrative that Dabo says about the portal affecting high school recruiting. It actually has produced more kids from high school getting offered. May not be from their dream school, but from A school. It's a finite number of kids that CAN get on a team. Every year a large number of kids who DID get a team out of high school as a project have in essence taken themselves off the market by entering the portal and never being picked up, thus providing more hs kids.
I know of zero high school kids in the portal. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think you put your name in the portal as a high school transfer.

Dabo is saying that many teams will overlook a developmental 3-star like CJ Kubah-Taylor in favor of taking a portal guy who has some experience and maybe a higher star-ranking. I don't know if that's true. Clemson has had no problem getting 3-star recruits like CJ for many years. Normally we're disappointed if we take 3-stars instead of 4-5-star guys. CJ had no offers from P5 teams. Not a good sign unless he's some kind of hidden gem. We'll see

If you watch the film this kid is big, agile and he's laying people out like crazy. He is 6'3" 220 and playing in coverage. He doesn't seem to have that burst but other than that he looks good.

Finally, common sense regarding the transfer portal. The portal in a sense is a huge blessing for Clemson because many schools are expending their scholarships on portal transfers, and this has allowed for Clemson to recruit talented young players from high schools with greater ease.

Absolutely the portal has hurt high school kids of the medium to developmental levels. People are taking cast off 4 stars or maybe 3 instead of developmental high school kids

But just how much development does a college FB freshman get that wasn't going to be an impact player as a true college freshman. I'm thinking that their experience consists of where the bulletin boards and locker rooms are!!!

Let’s do the math to see if you are correct. We know the total number of scholarships schools provide to football players is known fixed number. We also know that schools fill 99ish% of those ships every with a few going to deserving walk on players. We also know there are a significant number of players who enter the portal but never leave (think Hotel California). If schools are awarding all available scholarships every year and the number grows based on players left behind in the portal, it stands to reason more HS players are getting scholarships than would be the case without the portal. Might not be their school of choice, but we can’t always get what we want, but we usually get what we need

I like how Dabo builds through HS recruiting. That was the fun of college football to watch players develope over 5 years sometimes. It was very rare for a player to transfer and they needed to sit a year. The transfer portal is ruining college football.
