“Most freshman gain fat”......doubt that’s accurate.

I would think freshman football players would lose fat.

Yeah that's not for football players with a great diet and working out every day though. That's for the rest of us who were partying eating junk food.

Yeah, well true, but we all know that football players generally don't. They get in better shape. I guess if he wants to compare Mike Jones with the cliche sorority chicks adding their freshman 15, that's cool. It seemed odd. Either way, Jones is a stud. I liked the way he is flying around playing fast.

Agree....100%. Football players often gain weight and muscle. I think the article was just relating it to the rest of us.

Still, for a LB in this day and age 220 is pretty small, especially when you have 300+ lbs. offensive linemen (who can move) coming after you. And, he's trying to lose weight?? And play at 220??? LOL.

Dorian Odaniel is 205. He played that position perfectly. 220 is not small for that position. It's relative to the guy.

I didn't realize that O'Daniel was that small. Good for him. I've still got to say that he was an exception to the rule. Generally this day and age that's not going to work.

It's works in that particular LB position for our scheme. Even Tanner Muse could fill in there. I think he is about 225.

Most freshman and red-shirt players gain weight, muscle, and strength in their initial years because that is the primary goal of top collegiate weight programs. Very few freshmen possess the size or strength to compete at a major collegiate level. Why would anyone imagine why else big-time college programs have these extensive weight training programs and facilities? Can anyone imagine a football program being able to win without a weight-training program?? They'd be overpowered in every phase of the game. Danny Ford was rarely able to recruit elite classes. But our weight-training program at that time was able to transform average players into beasts that could blow people off the LOS.

Danny recruited very very well in the 80’s, he got the guys he wanted for the hard nosed running attack we had. Remember when ole Woody Hayes got so mad he punched one of our players because we were physically imposing our will against the Buckholes!
