I’d have fouled on inbound and make them sink both throws. We’d have the ball tied with 7 secs. IF they make both.

What does a good Coach who's up 2 points with 6.7 seconds, do ? 1) let them drive the court and launch a 3? or 2) foul them and make them win at the foul line ?
Fire Brownell Tonight!!!

Intentionally fouling a team when you’re up 2 in the final seconds and they have to drive the length of the court? Uh, no. That would be insane. Trust your defense and make them beat you. Now if you want to question calling the timeout … I’m with you. And as odd as it sounds, we’d have been better off if PJ missed the second free throw. But what a great, gutsy effort by him and the entire team As painful as the loss was, that will be be my lasting takeaway.

Va. Tech player had to make a great play guarded. Kid averages 6 points a game.

Great effort and execution by the tigers! Proud of this group.

I agree. You consider fouling to prevent a 3 pointer if you are up three but not up 2. Using hindsight to question that decision is the only reason that would be questioned. If he fouls, and we lose in a 2nd overtime then there would be a lot more second guessing.

Reminds you of the Tait George shot when UConn hit a last

second (split second) shot to rip our hearts out in the Sweet 16.

Got to give credit to the Va Tech kid who took the shot and made it.

Maddox is 51% from arc this year. I foul immediately. Pressure to make 2 shots for 2 pts instead of 1 shot for 3 pts. Don’t just do what everybody else does. Put your team in control of the outcome.

Fouling there is kind of insane.

Mar 10, 2022, 10:07 AM

I would need to see some really convincing analytics to buy that resulting in a higher win probability.

There would have been a lynch mob for Brownell if he

Mar 10, 2022, 1:35 PM

calls for an intentional foul in that situation and we let them get into a second overtime from the foul line. Especially if we lose it in double OT.

I would wager that no coach in the nation fouls there on purpose.

It only looks like a reasonable idea in hindsight.

Maddox is an 82% free throw shooter. I don’t think I want to put an 82% free throw shooter on the line.
