1) A Passing Game

Amen - a passing game. A QB that can consistently throw and receivers that can catch if and when the ball actually makes it to them.

O Line. They blew last year
2nd is receivers that can catch
3rd is a QB that can get it there

The Cincinnati Bengals o-line Blew

Burrow took them to the Super Bowl ... a great QB can overcome a lot. DJ cannot.

Re: TNET: Five factors to a Clemson return to the top

1. Health of OL
2. Health of QB
3. Health of WR
4. Health of RB
5. Health of DB

You can't have production on offense or defense if players are in the tent or in sweats.

We managed 10 wins last season with a Swinney

Jun 2, 2022, 8:16 AM

starting so, yea.

My only questions...

1. Can Brannon Spector and Will Taylor emerge as legit threats in the slot?

2. Are Marcus Tate and Dietrick Pennington ready?

3. Do we have an Andrew Booth, AJ Terrell, or Trayvon Mullen lockdown corner?

4. Who's the starting MLB at the end of the season? (Vonta, Maguire, Trotter Jr)

1. QB

2. Injuries

3. OL

1. Health and play of offensive line
2. Quarterback play. Specifically downfield passing
3. Minimize dropped passes by our receivers
4. Can the Oline open holes and our RB's hit those holes for big gains
5. Avoid the injury bug.

1. Top notch QB play
2. Top notch Offensive Line play
3. Top notch Receiving play
4. Top notch consistently moving the chains on offense
5. Top notch Offensive play calling

No doubt it's all on the Offense. We will see.

I'd change "Top Notch" to "reasonably competent"

Jun 2, 2022, 3:28 PM

We should be fine with reasonably competent.

Obviously, the Prime Directive is to score more points than

the other team. We need to return to the QUICK, UP Tempo and no more three yards and a cloud of dust. I do not know why they slowed the game down. Additionally, really got to throw the ball good and catch the ball.

Do these things and be glad.

Defense is fine

DJ is the reason!

The defensive stats from last year are skewed because of the problems with the offense. They were on the field way to much. If they can be a little better than average on offense this defense can get this team in the playoffs.

Defense was on the field for 1:14 and 3.3 plays more per game than last year. It's noticeable but it isn't so drastic that our team was dying due to being on the field way more.

Re: TNET: Five factors to a Clemson return to the top

Jun 2, 2022, 7:54 PM

That being said, we had blown out so many teams from 2015-2020 that our defense rarely played much into the 4th quarter. Our close games, coupled with injuries, possibly exposed some conditioning holes that we've developed

(1) TD Execution in the first 2-3 offensive drives
(2) Strong secondary defense
(3) 3rd down conversions
(4) Explosive Run Game
(5) Production from Tight Ends

Headline photo perfectly captures DJ's long, risky windup.

Jun 4, 2022, 3:15 AM

Ideally, you'd like to see a QB hold the ball at his chest, then wind-up behind the ear. Klubnik throwing mechanics are textbook perfect (as can be seen in the video link below.) DJ typically holds the ball at his belly and then winds-up way behind his back which makes for a longer, slower throwing motion that is riskier for strip-sacks. Tim Tebow had similar mechanics, so it's not like DJ can't be a successful natty-winning QB, but DJ's throwing-motion is certainly less than ideal.
