Long in talent and short in depth sums it up perfectly. If all 3 can stay healthy this group could be as good as any we’ve had in a long time. If 2 get injured we could be in a bad place. I’m really excited for the possibilities with this group. Article says they have to improve pass catching skills. I have been a big defender of DJ but the passes to the running backs was one of the places he struggles most last year. Shipley did drop a couple but a lot were difficult to catch or worse. If the QB can get the ball to them in stride in space we could see the screen become a big weapon. Go Tigers!

do we have any other RBs on the roster other than Pace, Shippley, Mahfa, Adams? If that is all it is a little light to cover practice reps without risking injury

Conditioning and jugs machine all spring and summer

All three of those dudes can be The Dude. I'd have them spending so much time on a jugs machine that they'd be catching passes in their sleep. Those dropped balls last season were glaring.
At night, when they're putting salve on the blisters on their hands, I'd have them studying film from last season to learn to recognize blitzes and think about where they should've been to protect the QB.
CJ, you're welcome.
All jokes aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing this unit perform next year. They are exceptional.

Yeah, ship missed that long one that could've been a TD but seasoned pros drop the layups too. You're talking a true freshman. At least 4 I remember from last season over the middle, a pro would have had a tough time catching it.
As good as ETN is, he didn't get any his freshman year. So, I definitely have to cut all of them some slack.

A few thoughts -
1) CJ was not known as a blocker 2) At 3 deep for one position, RB may be deepest position on the field with 3 good ones 3) J. Burrow, J. Chase. J. Jefferson, and LSU rb informally threw 10,000 pitch and catch balls in summer of 2019 to develop timing - hopefully Tigers can do the same

Not sure what the definition of depth is here. When you have three studs who would be starting at 95+percent of the colleges in D1 football, I don't think it is a depth issue. Now inexperience I can agree with...but not depth.

You think three functional RBs are enough for an entire season.
Adams will be relied on next season for meaningful snaps. I hope y'all are ready for that.

For some of the redshirts & walk-ons to push the envelope and get a few carries this year. IDK what kind of talent is on the roster, but they certainly have abilities to get by in a pinch. Adams,JR. is a solid #4, but since he doesn't get here until after the Spring Game, maybe there's a guy who can take advantage of the chance to get some carries then.

Here’s a sad fact regarding depth ... in this day and time

... keeping more than *three* quality RBs happy with their playing time is going to be almost impossible.
Top blue chip RBs hit campus thinking that they should start as freshmen.
When they don’t, many will now simply hit the portal. Bowman is a prime example.
Competing and paying your dues have become alien concepts.

I agree 100%- I want it it and I want it now attitude is very abundant now a days. Three is a good number. You could have ten and 9 could be hurt in one game- there is never truly enough guys on a football team.

I think people just find a sense of security with a Darien Reacher type on the bench for some reason.
No knock on Rencher, because he was an excellent guy to have around and a terrific representative for Clemson, but it’s a false security, because we are not going to win games if injuries cause us to dip that deep into the depth chart.
We certainly could not keep more than three guys who aspire to start happy and away from the portal. Bowman and Melusi proved that point.
I think three high quality RBs is the right number.
