After MLB Draft, Tigers win the lottery but not the Powerball
I was communicating with a friend at Clemson during the first round of Sunday night’s Major League Baseball Draft, and they told me that keeping one of the two players who were in line to be picked – Bubba Chandler and Will Taylor – would be like winning the lottery. Keeping both would be like winning the lottery and then finding out you hit the Powerball as well. Full Story » |

I'm very appreciative of Will Taylor's loyalty!! However, I don't blame Bubba for taking the big $$$.

You can’t win the lottery if you don’t hit the powerball…

So when you win $3 on powerball, you tell your friends you won the lottery?

You win $1M if you hit the five main balls without hitting the powerball. It’s a good analogy passed on by a good writer. Try to keep up!

Do you need glasses much? It clearly says PWO not PRO.
He's on scholarship, not a preferred walk-on.

Will and his family are as good as it gets. With brewer leadoff and Taylor, Grice coming behind him and the speed we'll have in the outfield... I think I could coach em and not screw that up. Throw in Blake around the 6 spot, and maybe Ty hitting in the 5 hole. Stoked.
Wills a smart boy. Bubba, not so much. I wish Bubba well but I think agents puffed him too much. Tear up your arm, a knee etc and you end up on the soup line. Yeah yeah, you can get a degree online but it's not like in person campus life under the tutelage of Dabo.

I know we are Clemson guys and biased, but I totally agree. You will never have another shot at being a freshman and on a college campus. Instead, he will be riding a bus around the country to minor league parks and sniffing smelly teammates instead of hot coeds. The money is great, but it's easy to blow through that kind of money in a year or less if you aren't smart. That degree and college experience are almost priceless. We probably won't even remember Bubba Chandler in 2 years and that's kind of sad, but truth. It's kind of like the NFL and these guys that declare early that aren't 1st round picks. They don't make it and then they have to come back to school, or wash dishes, on their own dime. I don't get why people don't get that, but it is what it is. I might can understand some poor kid from the ghetto coming out, but that degree and the possibility of raising your pro stock is worth coming back for.
I think Bubba will regret his decision for the rest of his life. However, he could come back and play football if he doesn't like the minors.

He can come back to college later and play football if baseball does not work out. He's getting a multi-million dollar contract/signing bonus...not a bad decision at all.

He is a pitcher prospect, with money. He wasn't going to start QB for Clemson - DJU then Klubnic and either Manning or Iamaleava will be here during what would have been Chamdler's playing days. Taylor has the luxury of seeing the field as a WR and that is the difference.

I think it's Dabo and Monte's time to invest, and they didn't consider it to be a waste.
And our teams could be much better for their efforts. Sorry that you have difficulty adjusting to that.

Or, here’s a better thought. Look for a guy who is perfectly willing to play back-up, without jumping into the transfer portal, because he’s a fine football player, but he’s a baseball guy at heart.

Is not inside information, it is an educated guess. There are exactly zero scouts who would have insight to his actual plans who would share anything with you (or anyone).
Cute guess on what played out.
