Personally, I’m glad Dabo isn’t using the portal.
I would rather lose games, than to lose our culture and our way.
Guys, I get it. We want to win. I do to.
However, I want to win with guys who truly want to be in Clemson.
I want to win with guys who aren’t going to ruin the culture of Clemson.
I want to win with guys who fit our program.
I don’t want to win with guys who bring baggage, drama, commitment issues, etc.
Once a Tiger, a Tiger for life. I rather stick to that than sell out because of outside pressure.
If it means dropping to 9-3, 8-4 seasons, so be it. It’s easy to just pick up guys and win games. It also brings long term issues and problems to the program. It devalues the program. You have guys bouncing every year. It’s not a good look. You lose graduates in your program when these kids leave. It’s overall bad. If people can’t see this, they’re delusional. You can’t be blinded by just wanting to win. It’s bigger than just winning games. Some people just don’t care to understand that.
If it were the NFL, I would have a different mentality over it. They literally all get paid to win. We’re talking about college though. 95% of them guys won’t go to the NFL. They need a solid foundation set for them. They don’t need bad apples, lack of commitment types to come in and poison their mindset.
It’s really not complicated. Quit feeding into the media narrative. They want Clemson to sellout because their favorite programs have. I don’t drool over a Natty every year. I don’t get a hard on for it. I don’t break my TV because.. o lord, we lose a game or two! Is it going to kill folks to not win a Natty? If we can have solid seasons yearly, win the ACC, possibly do well in the playoffs year in and year out, that’s still a win.
NOBODY is going to win the Natty every year. It’s really not that serious.
The outside doubted Dabo prior to the National Championships.... what happened?
What will the narrative be when/if he wins it again doing it the RIGHT way? Lucky?
Not a chance!

A lot of us believe that we can use the portal to get high character guys who can make our team better, while also having a positive impact on our culture.
You know, just like we’ve been able to do with high school recruits.
If our culture is so strong, our brand is so powerful, and our coaches are so talented, why on earth shouldn’t they be able to find the right players from the portal just as they do from the high school ranks?
The reality is that they can, if they want to. But Dabo has this weird opposition to the portal and has framed it as the devil’s handiwork that we must oppose. And predictably, the Dabo cult has eaten this up, to the point that it is now a ready-made excuse for our football program underachieving.

In my opinion, if a kid leaves a commitment, and heads to the portal, he has problems with committing. That’s a character issue. That bleeds into your culture. That could also mean other issues. Issues I wouldn’t want as a fan. I don’t want to see tons coming in, just to leave the following season. It’s ridiculous. It’s ruining college football. This isn’t the NFL and the free agency. I kinda like the idea of grabbing the kids from HS, with a solid commitment, and they stay and fulfill their commitment. You know, how collegiate sports should be!

Brad cult had to do something to keep his job but he could never recruit the level Dabo does so the only way to build for him is the portal.
If Dabo lost 7 players after the spring he would have gotten some portal players or transfers to fill the void.
His team is family and not easily broken up, it’s a Dream problem most coaches would love to have! He didn’t need to fill up voids with experienced players because he had them and top recruits to develop too!

LOL . Kinda like you and the BB does no wrong cult, right. BTW the only people who I hear use that are Cooters like Phil Corncoot and such. It is common to rail on our "coupon coach" and football cult by these Coots because the birds just can't beat the Tigers.

We have been over this many times. Read it slower this time. It is a numbers thing. Compare the number of portal entries each year to the number of HS graduates nationally each year. We only give a limited number of offers each year. There are so many more HS graduates than portal players so once we have offered the HS players we want there are no offers left for portal players. It’s a simple concept but doesn’t fit your Dabo bashing narrative.

I agree. However, folks can’t have National Championship expectations every year. Losing a couple games a year isn’t exactly a bad thing either. If we were going 6-6, then that would be an issue. If we were going 7-5, that would be an issue. 8-4 would even be an issue. 9+ win seasons isn’t all that bad, and more often than not, we win 9+, and even more than that, we win 10+. I’m not going to complain about a 9+ win season. I’m just not. People who do, have gotten way too spoiled and have raised their expectations far beyond reality.

Truth is Dabo has had the second most winningest program in college football behind Alabama over the last 10 years.
Look for us to make another run if our economy holds up through this election year.

Can't wait for the press conferences when Dabo hypes up the 0 star Clemson version of Rudy Ruttigers by telling us they are ballers, grinders, who are real tough, gritty and how he thinks they will be big contributors this season. And how they are proof he doesn't need to go to the transfer portal because he can just look down the bench and put them in and there is no drop off. We all know it's not even true but I must admit the way he sells it is hilariously convincing and we seem to fall for it every season.

Few are buying it now! I mean 4 years ago it was a valid excuse that we had done so much in recent history and everyone has some drop off. Just had a QB problem and next year we would be right back. Things went from bad to worse, coaching changes, QB changes with no real improvement.
Now it’s just expected that we will probably underperform, beat all the expected teams and lose to the good ones. I hope this changes but I don’t see it. Our run is over
