Since there are no longer any rules in college football governing purchasing players, (either HS or poaching off other teams) I think the NCAA should allow active NFL players to compete in college football. Most players would actually make more money. The schools and the networks would make more money. Almost everyone would be happy.

I'm know you are joking, but they would get a worse deal overall in college.

Since NFL players would never consent to attending class, they would only be eligible to play at UNC which would be unfair for real universities.

I laughed, but that's also true at many other schools.

Once a former Auburn RB appeared in court and the judge asked him to his face because the Auburn guy was obviously as dumb as a rock how he made it through school. The former Auburn player said he never had to go to class. I appreciated his honesty

I actually hate to admit my guys are bad, but we used to flunk out kids all the time. Now, it never happens and we are in the cheating SEC. I wanted Big 10 or anything but the cheating conference.
There's a reason everyone in that conference hates Georgia Tech so much. From my understanding, they left partly because they required their athletes to do school. Haha.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As usual, you're FOS

Nov 18, 2024, 10:10 AM [ in reply to But accordingly to Bluffton, athletes are the smartest kids at school!*** ]

I've repeatedly posted data showing that athletes have overall graduation rates much higher than non athletes.

I've also discussed that the athlete graduation rates are actually higher than the NCAA's numbers hbecause:

1. Transfers count against the graduation rate from the school they left

2. Graduation rates are calculated against a period of five consecutive years. College athletes that go pro before graduating, then come back and finish their degree later like Shaq O'Neill and others famously did.

You really have a sick obsession with me. Get help.

I have prob read several dozen articles that are very similar, not one of them talks about the tampering . The star players have their deals cut before they go into the portal . DS would essentially have to commit to tampering to join the crowd , and he won’t do it . He’s not wrong about the talent , look across the nfl at the number of tigers who have been long term players and several stars , from the 15-19 teams . You won’t see that from the 20 and beyond . Until tampering is fixed I don’t see Clemson being relevant in the portal

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If DS were to tamper and get caught

Clemson would get the death penalty to end all death penalties. Dabo would be made a sacrificial lamb for everything that is currently wrong with college sports.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well written and correct. Sadly it wont change a thing.

Nov 16, 2024, 6:39 AM

As great as Dabo has been for us, it would be beyond sad for him to be forced out due to his refusal to adapt.

What, and no mention that Dabo forces all of his players to listen to Christian music?

What a puff piece!

Going to lose a few of the good ones in the very near future. Not the way many signed on for truly equitable roster building. Teams should not be built by the number of high dollar bagmen they have working for them.

Most reasonable and folks with common sense knew when this portal and NIL came on the scene, even though the concept is a good one in my mind, greedy folks and alum would screw it up for everyone. Can’t blame them there is nothing to reign in the legal bagmen.

Always been around but not to this extent imo.

I guess the writer failed to recognize what happened at FSU, NCSU, Auburn, UF, Wisconsin, Southern Cal, UCLA, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan, TCU, Baylor, and Oklahoma State this year. All of those teams used the portal. Results? Not so much.

Re: Didnt read the article, did ya?***

I did read the entire article. This is the same old story that we have heard for years. Clemson has the ability to win 10 games during this regular season and has a shot at the ACCCG and a playoff birth. This writer insinuates that Clemson's program is not competitive and living in the past. Do we think that the game has changed and Clemson may not have the money to pay for a 5* QB anymore, whether that is through high school recruiting or the portal? The writer says that Clemson is not developing talent, but I see Woodaz, Barnes, Lawson and others contributing each week (playing more consistently than big time recruit Barrett Carter). I've watched a lot of Clemson football over the years and I'll take this group over what I lived through with Ken Hatfield, Tommy West, and Tommy Bowden. We have a chance each year--and that's not a bad place to be. I will be interested to see what Dabo can do with the additional financial resources of the SEC or B1G if that comes to pass.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tell me you don't understand statistics...

Nov 18, 2024, 10:18 AM [ in reply to Re: Time for Change ]

Without using the words.

There are 131 non military FBS schools that can use the portal. The other 130 do just that.

There are going to be teams out of the 131 that are going to be mediocre or bad in any given year. That generally has zero correlation to their portal use.

Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, Indiana, Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Oke Miss, Tennessee, Miami, Boise State, SMU, BYU, Texas A&M, and Colorado.say hello. They have two common denominators. They all use the portal, and they are ranked ahead of us.

Colorado, the highest portal user in the land, has the same record as us, BTW.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I stopped reading after the second falsehood

2

Nov 18, 2024, 8:16 AM

1) The portal era started on October 15th, 2018, not 2021.
2) We have used the portal.

These facts are not in dispute.

Re: I stopped reading after the second falsehood

Writer is probably referring to the changes in 2021 that allowed players to change schools using the portal once without sitting out a year after the transfer.

2025 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson does use the portal

Nov 18, 2024, 10:22 AM [ in reply to I stopped reading after the second falsehood ]

But the only meaningful transfers are guts that leave.

The new 105 roster limit, small recruiting class, multiple decommits, and zero meaningful transfers in don't make the future look rosy.

"Guts that leave"?
