Clemson History Day - Old Clemson Rings

The earlier posts about Clemson History reminded me I didn't know where my Uncles' Clemson rings were. They both died without families and so my grandfather kept their rings and when my grandmother died, she gave them to me since the rest of my immediate family are filthy Gamecocks.
The 1970 Clemson ring is from my Mom's brother. He graduated Clemson, got married, enlisted, was stationed in Germany, and got brain cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme. He lived out his days with his wife but they never had a family. When he died, she moved on, got remarried and, I believe had kids. She lost contact with my grandparents and mother so we have no idea about her. So through the line, I inherited Mike's ring.
The 1919 Clemson ring is from my Mom's great uncle. I only know his name and the fact that he went insane and died in the mental hospital on Bull Street. We found receipts in my grandparents things from when they would send him money.
Anyways, the post about the book reminded me of the rings and made me a little paranoid that I had misplaced them. Found them and thought you guys might get a kick out of it and I might get some fake internet points.
Now I need to find my '04 Clemson Ring.

ROBERT MALCOLM PRIDMORE Gaffney, S. C. ••/ dare do all that becomes u man. n'ho dares do more is none.
CIVIL ENGINEERING Private : Sergeant : Senior Private : C. O. T. S.. Camp Gordon.
Member Calhoun Literary Society : Class Foot- ball and Basketball 10: Junior and Senior Dancing Clubs : Non-Corns. Club : Cherokee County Club.
"Prid" claims Gaffney as his "briar
patch." Indeed he seems to be proud of the fact. He came to Clemson in Sept. 1915, with the firm determination to be a civil engineer. However, this science has turned out to be only a side line with him. most of his time being devoted to the study of English. Economics, and Love.
In the fall of his senior year. "Rube" decided that he was allowing some good officer material to go to waste. Conse- quently, he went to Camp Gordon. The Kaiser was informed of this fact and came to the conclusion that he would have no chance when "Rube" took up his "watch on the Rhine." He therefore "threw up the sponge" and deprived "Prid" of the opportunity to demonstrate his mili- tary genius. But "every cloud has a silver lining" and that which was the armv's loss i> Clemson's gain. We pro- phesy for this "Gaffneyite" a brilliant suc- cess in his chosen line of work.

I never got a ring. I didn't have the money for it at graduation. I always planned to buy one later but never have. I probably should.

loan for college. The bank president (who ended up being Dad's boss, I think) told him he wouldn't loan him money to go to Clemson. He told Dad that wasn't for him. So Dad borrowed money to go to PC. Went there one year, dropped out because too expensive. Went to USC-L for a year or two and lived at home to save money, then went to USC Columbia for a year or two to graduate. He was the first in his family to go to College so they had no affiliation that I know of.
Mom went to Winthrop, was a Clemson fan, married Dad and changed affiliations. Older brother went to South Carolina. I said EFF THAT and went to Clemson like my loving Grandparents wanted. I was always their favorite.

Clemson A&M College class ring.
I wear it all the time now, instead of mine.
He wore it ALL the time . . . unless he remembered to take it off before working on cars. He usually forgot and it got grimy with him.
For his 60th birthday, we sent it in to get the centerpiece replaced because it was destroyed due to wearing it all the time.
Miss you, Dad.

My ring is a Herff Jones (Class of '99). Last time I got it resized it took more than a couple calls to HJ to get them to realize that I couldn't just go thru the University.
The Alumni association was just like "We use Josten's now (or whoever it was at the time I was trying to do this). We can't help you."

I think there were 8 highball glasses from Clemson College with an AWESOME Vintage Tiger on the back.
The other glasses is what I got the confused with.
And the obligatory 1981 Orange Soda cans. I think I have 5 of those.
My glasses win.

His 1950 class ring was one of my most prized possessions until I lost it at a Greek fast food restaurant in Charlotte around 1999. Now it’s one of my most prized “I was a king-sized dumbassss that day” reminders.

it was beat to smithereens . . . when we sent it in to Herff Jones (Just studied the inside band - it says H.J. 10K - so it was Herff) - they said they can't do the dome anymore, they could only replace it with the new "flat" face.
We agreed.
Pretty sure my Dad didn't love the "new fangled" look . . . . .

God blessed me with Jimmy Carter who destroyed our economy and caused my move from TN to SC to find work. After being here less than two years I began to wonder what part of my life wasn't complete. It turned out to be my education.
I'd heard people talk about Clemson but it was just a dot on the map to me even though it was ~10 miles from where I lived. Those in the administration office basically ran me out of the building when I 'stopped by to get an application.' They sent me to tech school to 'prove,' I was worthy.
I didn't know where Harvard on the Hill was but I knew G'ville Tech having worked in Greenville some. After two quarters at G'ville Tech I applied to Clemson. When I 'dropped off,' the application they told me Building Science operates under the Art and Arch banner and A&A doesn't take transfers.
I directed my application to engineering and got my acceptance letter 3 days later, dropped all the engineering classes and blew that semester.
3 yrs later, Aug 88, I walked across the stage at Little John. I had a wife, five children, a sister and 6 nieces and nephews in the upper seats all screaming 'Way to Go, Daddy,' when I took the scroll.
I couldn't afford a ring for so long I'd feel stupid for spending the money on one now.

Reminds me that I need to get my ring repaired. Took it to a local jewelry store because I needed to get it resized. They took it to the back and then came up and told me how much it would be to have the work done, it was like $250 or something ridiculous. I declined and they brought the ring back out but they had already cut the band at the bottom to start the work. No big deal, I thought. I would just wear it with it being cut. Well, not to long after that I was with a friend downtown at a bar on a Thursday night watching our beloved Tigers play FSU. We scored a touchdown, and in the excitement I slammed my hand down on the bar and a small piece broke off, rendering it pretty much unwearable. Can’t remember when that was, but it’s been a minute. Anyone know when was the last time we played FSU on a Thursday night?
