Tigernation Divided ?

After viewing the various internet sites and listening to Sports Radio for a couple of days, one could say Tigernation is evenly divided with half happy with Dabo, half not.

Their civility or lack thereof defies all forms of reason! lol

@ the Clemson fans wanting Dabo fired....
He is a young talented coach who WANTS TO BE AT CLEMSON.
Look at James Franklin at Vandy. He was interviewing for the Southern Cal job. Look at Washington's coach leaving to go to Southern Cal. Look at how many hot shot coaches left their team for a "better job" Rich Rodriguez Urban Meyer (I am not buying "health reasons") Mack Brown Lane Kiffin Heck, Nick Saban seems to have entertained the Texas job. Saban has done this three times before (Michigan St, LSU, Miami Dolphins)
As a USC fan, I am worried about the day Spurrier decides he rather work on his golf swing more than work on a 7 step drop with a 19 year old who has never been told "no" in their life.
Lick your wounds like grown ups and understand having a young loyal enthusiastic coach is a great problem to have.

I agree, we should be glad to have Dabo. Changing coached doesn't always fix wins and loss's. And at this point Clemson looks pretty #### good in that category. Coach changes can even make thing worse.

Most if not all SC fans hate Dabo because "he is nothing but a cheerleader". Why is that and why do you see that as a positive while most SC fans see that as a negative?? By the way, I am grateful to have Dabo and hope he sticks around for a long time. He loves the school and he really cares about his players not only from a FB perspective but a life perspective. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Most South Carolina fans don't hate Dabo. I know a number of them that actually respect or like him...
They have a culture that is built around hate for all things Clemson. With him being the head coach of Clemson, he gets haters by default.

Out of all of my friends that are coots and are reasonable people, every single one of them hates Dabo. It all goes back to his rant. They know it's true, and they will never forgive him for it. I for one, don't understand the hate, as they are on a 5-0 run.

Because some people cannot be rational when discussing their rivals.
Dabo could cure cancer and some USC fans would say "well it took him long enough".
Connor Shaw is an obvious winner and plans on joining the Military after he graduates to be special forces...and yet some Clemson fans were on here calling him ugly.
One day both sides will be ashamed how petty we can be.
Until then, I will just try to be a straight shooter and congratulate Clemson on its accomplishments and I will still pull for you guys 364 days of the year.

I really don't think most USC fans have "hate" for Dabo. Many have little respect for him as a head coach, or thought his staged rant was something straight off a message board rather than something a D1 head coach should say. But why would we hate him?
We hated Danny Ford because he beat our tails. We hated Tommy Bowden for the same reason. Dabo? We hope he stays put for a long time.

are the most vocal. I am happy with Dabo, but certainly not happy with five in a row. There is certainly room for criticism in that reagard, but to fire a coach with 10 wins in each of his last 3 seasons is insane.

you cant let that one game mean the season. I hate we have lost and have to deal with it daily at work but you cant let that game define your season. I look at this as a process in steps.
1. Develop a coaching staff and make necessary changes- Morris, Venables, getting rid of Napier/Steele, etc..
2. Recruit at a top level- a definite strength
2. Improve- I think we have done that each year- 6 wins, 10 wins, 11 wins, 10 with possible 11 wins.
3. Develop consistency- see number 2, 3 straight 10 win seasons. We have also eliminated losing the ### games
4. Compete for the conference title- 1 ACC title, 2 division titles (1 tie). We have contended for the division the last 2 yrs with only 1 conference loss to the eventual champion.
5. Compete for a national title- were getting close but I dont think we are quite here yet, but close. I dont even think we are on this step yet to be honest. To get to this step I think you have to consistently dominate the conference. Now if we start winning the ACC every year and continue to lose to USUC and they keep us out of the national title then I think you have to look at making a move but I just dont think we are there yet.

He is the head coach, but Clemson fans, BOTs, etc. created this situation when they complained (like they are now) and Bowden resigned. I think the streak is more a result of the lost recruiting class when Bowden resigned then it is a reflection of how good of a coach Dabo is. (or will be) That class is gone now, so that is no longer the case, but Clemson had Dabo fighting with one of his arms tied behind his back for four of the five years… They also made the choice to take a chance on a younger guy with no previous experience.

taking a step back and putting things in prospective (long)
Dec 4, 2013, 7:58 AM
|

I know we lost 5 in a row to USUC but come on 3 straight 10 plus win seasons (can have back to back 11 win seasons with bowl win), 2 division titles, a conference championship that hasnt been seen here for 20 yrs, a bcs bowl appearance and possibly another this year. Over the last 2 years we are 21-4, over last 3 years 31-8. Id say despite how much it sucks we are losing to our rival and it sucks and bothers me a lot, but when you put things into prospective he is doing pretty good all the while learning a lot as a young coach that has lots of years left in him. He has also shown that he can make good hires and change assistant coaches when needed. He also continues to recruit with the best of them.
If I have one complaint it is special teams and it might be time to start looking at getting rid of Pearman. While every phase of our game seems to be better over the last 3 years our special teams just arent cutting it and has regressed. We have had kickoff coverage problems, punt coverage problems, and virtually no kick and punt return teams. Our punt return team is virtually nonexistent and consistently costs us field position and turnovers. The only phase of special teams is field goals but I doubt that has anything to do with Pearman but more with Catman. He has done a decent job coaching TEs but how much of that was just how good DA and BF was. He also brings zero to the recruiting table.

Read an article the other day about how Clemson brought on Dabo due to losing games should have won. However, now the beat those teams but can't win the big one. Sure lsu Uga but USC FSU wvu are bad losses
Hoping he turns that around and 1 thing for sure..the lines seemed even the other night and the skill positions favor Clemson I would be shocked if 6 is the number next year. These were for the first time In awhile 2 evenly matched teams

I have nothing against Dabo.

My concern is Clemson. He has been given just about anything he wants to develop our players to be competitive with anyone in the nation. It has been five years, and we aren't there yet. Gus did it in one year at Auburn. Meyer has had two consecutive undefeated seasons at Ohio State. We are still struggling to win the big games and our rival. More importantly, our team is still inconsistent.
Our players and fans deserve better. I keep hoping Dabo will do something different to change that. So far, it hasn't happened, and I don't see anything happening to improve it next year. There is nothing I would like better than to see Dabo succeed in making Clemson a perennial powerhouse in college football.

TDP didn't give Dabo the $$$(he was promised) to hire the staff he wanted.
Think about how one decision effects 2 programs as an example- Dabo wanted Ellis Johnson as his DC to start with.
What does that do for Clemson's D if EJ is hired instead of Steele ? The second part of that question, does USuC ever build a top 10 defense that carried them until this year without EJ ?
Since Dabo was allowed to hire the guys he wanted with the finances he wanted, it's been a GREAT improvement.

Dabo is a polarizing figure
Dec 4, 2013, 9:24 AM
|

always has been.
you have the run of the mill fan who bought into his hype machine and rah rah tactics.
and you have the football savvy fans/coaches who saw through all of that and had doubts due to his lack of actual football knowledge/experience/background.
and you also have those who think we was part of the problem under Bowden and cried "foul" when we promoted an asst from a failed/fired staff.

I have friend a who played college ball about 20 years ago. He is heavily involved in helping high school players make good decisions. For example, he has met Saban, Malzahn, and Swinney, among others.
He predicted Auburn would beat Alabama. He said Malzahn is one of two coaches in the SEC who has beaten Sabin, and if Auburn is hanging around in the 4th quarter, they will win.
We talk football all the time. When I ask him his opinion of Dabo, he usually just smiles and shakes his head.

I heard similar stories...

about Tommy Bowden. But Bowden never won 10 games here. That seems to be the magic number. As long as the ACC is down and even previous powerhouse programs like VT and Miami are garbage, 10 wins are going to be very doable. That just leaves the coots and the noles... and from what I'm hearing these days, beating them isn't important; just win 10 games. 10 games - that sounds strong. Hard to argue with that.
So, it looks like things will stay the same here unless the rest of the ACC gets significantly stronger. Then Dabo & Co. may face a little resistance.

Getting rid of Pearman is a good idea. He is a poor recruiter. Change strength staffs as well. Quit signing players who cannot make the two deep chart or won't help beat FSU. Too many walk ons get scholarships at Clemson.l
