Tiger paw stencil?

Jun 29, 2014, 4:12 PM

We'd like to put a few paws around the house. Measured in width, we were thinking about 3-5 feet wide. (Maybe around 3 feet for a wall, and around 5 feet wide on the driveway.)

I don't want to freehand draw it, because it'll end up looking like a high school ripoff. Are there big paw stencils that you can buy? Other ideas that you might recommend? Thanks in advance...

Find someone with a computer projector you can borrow. Download a tiger paw image file and project it onto the board or paper you want to use as a stencil (or directly onto the wall). Trace around it. You ought to be able to make it almost any size you might want. You still have to deal with cutting it out, but it ought to be a dead-on accurate drawing.

For the wall you could do something similar to how I did my grill. Paint the wall (or at least the entire area where the paw will be) the color that you want the paw. Find a big enough paw sticker or decal and place it on the wall how you want it. Then paint all around it. Pull the paw off gently immediately after painting.

For this grill, I sanded it down to metal, primed it with white, put my decal on as best I could line it up and then painted orange. Pulled off decal.

Great question, if you find a reasonable solution please let me know. I would love to have those big orange paw prints coming up the driveway : )

What I did

I bought blank stencil pastic. I traced a paw off a car magnet (magnet under stencil plastic to get the outside paw detail) and then used an exacto knife to cut it out. Voila I have a paw stencil. I have done that 2-3 times and it worked great - even included the notch.

We used a prism projector to dial up the size we wante, traced it with a pencil and painted it on. The projectors can use a variety of artwork from a paw decal, to a page from a promo etc. the limit on size seems to be the distance from the wall plus the power of the lens. Projectors of this type can be found on eBay and amazon in addition to art stores. Probably can get an adequate one for $ q100. They are a fun and useful gadget to have if you cannot borrow one.
