Thoughts on Selling Alcohol in Clemson Sports' Venues

Traveled to Winston-Salem in 2021 to support Tigers vs. Wake in what may have been DJ-U's best game at Clemson ... a 51-45 shoot-out vs. Sam Hartman and team. The prepped out and clean-cut Wake fans pulled hard for their team all game long and yet were still as friendly and civil as could be even after taking the loss.

And the iced down beer coolers were well stocked at several few locations inside the stadium. My 22-year old son (at the time) and I imbibed 4-5 import beers. If I recall right, they were bottled beers the attendants poured into plastic cups (but maybe they were cans.)

Anyway, we're talking somewhat high brow Wake fans, and the stadium was 20-30% Clemson. But it was a first class environment, and the beer sales did nothing to change that. At the end of the day, do we trust Memorial Stadium staff and security's ability to monitor and control excess consumption?

At 8-$12 a beer, many budget-minded youngsters will not seek to buy ten beers at the game. But there will be exceptions who will be locked up.

On the positive side, more young (and older) fans may choose to stay in the stadium at half-time vs. leaving for the tail gate or downtown and not returning. This occurred big-time at this year's Louisville home game. But it seemed after the two week break, the players and coaches did not want to be there themselves. Definitely a seasonal low the Tigers rebounded from ...

There will be no half time pass-outs once we join the B1G or the SEC. Those sales will go up when that happens.

Now there's a point worth noting...if everyone in the stadium will just put on a set of beer goggles and throw back 4-5 beers throughout the coarse of the game, no one will even notice or care if a first class environment is maintained or not, lol.

Good take on the subject.***
