It ain't a good one. No worries though, CDC's on top of it.

As soon as they're taken out of time out, and allowed to talk and rejoin the class.

Whatever it is, it's very catchy. 100% secondary attack rate (SAR) in our house of 5. Not saying it's bird flu, but I am saying it's a new flu on the block, immunologically speaking. By July we will know the subtype, maybe.

Neat tidbit, H5N9 was detected in California back in November (learned that yesterday). That's the more traditional Asian bird flu, never before seen in US poultry. Found in California, along with H5N1, in a commercial flock. Belongs to the same clade as H5N1 though. So that is comforting to know.

PS. - CDC, just before they were sent to time out, directed all hospitals to subtype all Flu-A hospital admissions ASAP.

And I know, dangit......links:

can only say from my small sample size

have only had 1 pt so far that I know had vaccine that got it. We currently have to document the flu vaccine status of every patient (if they haven't had it we have to offer or put reason why not), so think I'm pretty right on that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

+5 then, as you can add our whole house. All vaxxed, all positive for flu-A

I think in medical studies that's called 0% effective in preventing household transmission. I will say it wasn't really severe, but then again wasn't mild either. Average severity.

I had the flu shot and I’ve suffered through what I would describe as a nasty cold. My youngest son did not have the flu shot, has had fever, chills, body aches, cough, snot, and vomiting. He normally handles sickness like a champ. But this one has rocked him a bit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In my house, it's been ZERO% effective in preventing household

transmission. All vaxxed, all got the same flu. Maybe it's milder? Don't know....didn't seem particularly severe, or mild.

taking the flu shots about 7 years ago. Many people casually say "I had the flu" when they just had a bad cold.

The flu is bad news, and not generally easy to get over. It kills people on the regular.

left work and went home, still feeling that way. Then I got a fever about 8pm and started feeling like I was going to vomit....never did. Took some kind of flu/cold pill my wife had. Slammed some zinc, magnesium and another multivitamin.

Woke 10 hours later feeling pretty decent. Didn't go to gym, but feeling good now.
