Possibly including Neff himself.

From his decision to retain Brown-L the past two years....

Mar 13, 2023, 10:40 PM

I think it is clear he doesn't expect us to be an NCAA Tourney program. And saying he sees this year's team as an NCAA team is straight delusional.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually…it’s possible to think of this year’s team as a NCAA team that got the shaft…

and have concerns about the program and how long the coach should continue. To me, the lack of extension to the contract showed some restraint on Neff’s part.
And I think much of the board’s vitrol for Brownell is unwarranted. I personally think he’s been here long enough…but the whole ‘internet mob’ thing has been overdone on Tnet in this case.
And yes…this team was robbed. There’s a reason why basketball is not football…and one of them is the selection committee.
I also think the ACC is in trouble…and is not getting in is the latest example.

Silly that those of us that read "plans for next year that would return us to the NCAA Tournament" did not realize it only meant just make plans, you don't actually have to accomplish what you planned to do.

Guess that makes us NITwits.

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How’d that “plan” work out? Top. Men.***

Apparently that letter “didn’t take” and was only was only words that sounded good after yet another disappointing season. No NCAA Tournament this year either. No expectations = no accountability for results. Neff and Brad both view us as a Tournament team. I guess you get to a point where you just “play like” you make it and everything is good. At the end of the season, we can follow their lead and “play like” we won it.

Clearly that was just word salad and lip service***

It looks like he’s content with a stable situation,

As AD, your expectations are winning, competing for championships, and a superior student-athlete experience. Just like men’s basketball.

oddity in that we had a pretty good season (not great) and were wrongly snubbed by the selection committee. So, as much as I have wanted a coaching change for many years now, I understand why the trigger was not pulled at this time. I do fully expect and believe that, barring another freaky situation like covid or a war or comet colliding with earth, making the NCAAT will be an absolute bottom line requirement next season, and that failure to do so will result in a change.

This whole "snubbed by the selection committee" thing...

1

is a complete load of snake oil.

The solution is really very simple. Win the games that you are supposed to win and you then take the decision out of the hands of the selection committee.

Never leave your fate in the hands of others. Control your own destiny.

NCST getting in over us. That can't be justified.

but they did play a tougher schedule.

They played Miami, UNC, and Virginia twice while Clemson faced each those teams just once during the regular season. They also played Kansas out of conference.

Apparently, to the committee, their metrics are more important than common sense.

He said he "aspires" to be an NCAA tournament team. But in the same breath, says he's content with the overall "direction" of the program.

In other words, mediocrity is acceptable for Neff.
