This team lost out on being in the tournament for one reason and one rwason

Only. Failure to rebound. But, I can't blame them for not rebounding when the SCHEME has them back peddling AS SOON AS THE SHOT GOES UP. Nobody does this better than us. SHOOT THE BALL AND EVERYBODY HAUL ### TO PLAY DEFENSE. You change that one thing and I bet the house we would have won those pissant games. JMHO.

I personally think it was just the living and dying by the 3 pointer. Also we just don’t recruit well enough.

Shooting a lot of 3 pointers inherently puts you in poor offensive rebounding position. It goes back to the offensive scheme.

Sometimes you scheme around the strengths of the talent you have. Boy, when we were "on" with our shooting like those 3 NCS games, we looked almost like no one could beat us.
But when we were off...

Yep. When it was good it was great and when it was bad it was ugly.

of the Brad Brownell era. I don't have many recollections of the Bill Foster era at Clemson, but I do remember we had a set play for a player named Fred Gilliam. We would run almost like a Harlem Globetrotter like weave, and it would ALWAYS result in a wide open shot for Gilliam from just beyond the foul line, where he would drain the jumper just about every time. The play was used specifically to kill scoring droughts. Take notes, Brad.

I also remember that near the end of that season

Foster kept playing younger players "for the future" and kept Fred on the bench for long periods. Hated that!

Yes and he ran off Harvey Grant, because he wasn't good enough to play, so he went to Oklahoma and became and All-American.

I have done no formal analysis of it, but informally I have kept mental note of where the score is a 4:00 in the first half. Clemson has been absolutely blitzed in the last 4 minutes of the first half in many many games this season. Against UVA, we trailed by 4 after Tyson's 3 at 3:58. We never scored again in the half, to go into the locker room down by 12.

And we didn’t score for the first 3:57 of the second half. Right at 8 minutes total. Game over at that point.

When you spread the floor to try to get open 3 pointers, your players are not in position to block out and get offensive rebounds. One guy is usually near the paint and most of the time this year that was Schieffelin. You can send a runner to the basket on the shot to be in position for a possible rebound but we didn’t do that much. Tyson did a few times. Usually all 4 guys on the perimeter bailed to the defensive end.

Nope
Not the case.
It has been this philosophy for awhile. UVA does not focus on offensive rebounding as much as defensivecrebounding.
They lost games because they are not perfect. Shots fall and sometimes they don't. The talent level is not as high or as deep as some opponents.
The bad losses were just that bad losses.

us for an easy 8 points. We are not even in a position to get a put back. Bad losses are bad losses because WE failed to rebound. Look at the stats in the Loyola and Coot games. We don't even try to get offensive rebounds in many games. DON'T EVEN TRY. It would be like NEVER blitzing in football, NEVER bunting in baseball, or NEVER lining up a 4 foot putt in golf.

Could be why I was never a success at Ye Olde Fishing. I don't recall EVER having any success with anything other than jelly worms and the like. Spinner baits or the like were just wasted money in my tackle box, I obviously did not know how to properly operate those things.

Ahh yes Brads “ball and haul” tried and true methodology. It guarantees an average.500 win percentage.
Yes when playing the ball and haul scheme sometimes you may beat a top ranked team and sometimes you may lose to the worst team in the country. But one thing is certain…you will be a .500 basketball team.
