My fat ### can't fit in my one suit anymore. This is the same suit I got married in. It's my only suit. I have a couple of highly valuable interviews next week and now need a new suit.
So tonight we are going to Burlington coat factory to get me a new coat and tie.
What's the trend these days? What are these hip cats wearing when it comes to suits?

Please do not buy a black suit. You only need those for funerals. A blue suit will do the trick for every event. A black suit on a fat guy does not look good.
Also, buy the right fit in the chest, then go and get it tailored like a real man.

You can very easily go the Navy sport coat with khaki look, but you really need to do two things. Even as a big dude, you still can pull off a tapered sport coat. Kind of like below.
http://s7d9.scene7.com/is/image/JCPenney/DP0703201913012688M
Make sure the line cuts right below your man #####. Seriously, make sure you do not have a straight line, you want it to fit in the right places.
Then really its all about the pant not flowing over your shoes. You DO NOT want the bottom of your pant touching your shoe laces. For all things holy, do not have your pants touching your shoe laces.
Then, really, I would spend more time somewhere making sure the shoes are right. These fuddy duddys on here with balk at this, but in your profession and what you are wanting to accomplish, you need a dress sneaker. Every brand imaginable has them and you dont have to spend a ton. I got a pair at Belk one time for like $60.
Now go and win that interview!

hike one leg up and kick back....or you should.....then its going to be important that your sock game is strong. Again, you can get cool cheap dress socks anywhere. Polka dots always work, just want the socks to match your tie.

Bruh big ex-nay on the sneaker dress hybrid shoe. Just get a pair of wingtips, they can be worn w a suit all the way to jeans. I think the sneaker dress shoes are super boomer-y looking.

You don’t have to buy AE’s, I have two pairs of Cole Haan shoes that I wear all the time, a penny loafer and a pair of pebble grain wingtips. I just steer clear of the sneaker soles.

It’s a little late notice, but I’ll echo what Rulez suggested. Your first suit should be navy or charcoal gray, both are versatile and look good on everyone. Fit in the shoulder is the most important thing, everything else can be tailored. Material is the second most important thing- I would not buy a suit unless it is 100% wool- polyester suits won’t drape right, don’t hold up well, and look noticeably cheap. Don’t buy a suit with very narrow lapels, especially as a bigger guy you’ll look like a queer. Tie size should match lapel width. Don’t buy a suit with functioning sleeve buttons, they’re far more expensive to tailor and is a detail that only a real ponce would notice anyway. In SC, butterfly or half lining is best, full lining, even in Bemberg, won’t breathe very well.
You don’t need an investment-quality suit, but don’t waste your money on a throw-away either. If you want to or can spend between 500-700 I’d suggest Bonobos or Suit Supply, these are half-canvas construction. If you can’t swing that much, J Crew Factory makes a decent all wool fused suit that will hold up pretty well and looks good after some tailoring.

and then sit it in the closet.
Get a decent pair of khakis, tapered leg, JCrew Outlets have them for $50 sometimes. Get a coat that looks good with those pants. White or blue shirt and a decent tie. It's an interview, nothing else. The industry you are in would be one where looking super fancy aint going to swing it in your favor. Don't go all-out.
I wore a suit to my last "job interview" and they made fun of me later for doing that...nobody in my field wears a suit unless you are presenting to a client.

My daily wear is chinos, button down, sportcoat.
I wear bonobos tailored fit chinos, J crew factory makes a nice pair of chinos too for a little lower price point. I’ve searched far and wide & best dress shirts for best price are lands end supima no-iron oxfords, and sportcoats can be thrifted or bought from literally anywhere- same rules as above about fit & material apply.

3 sporcoats is all you need. Get a navy blue, a medium-light gray, and a pattern or some sort, either windowpane or wide checks in a muted color (think blues and grays). Those three can rotate with basically any pants color & shirt.
