Thinking back to 2018....

Sep 24, 2023, 6:39 PM

Thank goodness for Christian Wilkins!

How the story went was he (and other Defensive leaders) went to Coach Swinney and requested to start TLAW over KB.

Without that, we do NOT have that 15-0, National Championship season. And, seeing how 2019 and 2020 playoffs ended....

Anyway,

Go Tigers!!!

DT Christian Wilkins and LT Mitch Hyatt were game #1 starters upon arriving at Clemson. Both played critically important positions; there was no quality depth behind either player; both were incredibly durable. Without stellar play from both, we don’t win any national championships.

(*). I consider Christian Wilkins and Mitch Hyatt to be the most important co-equal factors in our success for winning two national championships.

DW4? We won one title with him.
TL16? We won one title with him.
T.Etienne? One title.
T.Higgins / M.Williams / A.Rodgers / J.Ross / J.Leggett … only one title.

What am I missing?

Still blows my mind Mitch Hyatt hasn't played a down in the NFL....

Hyatt was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys after the 2019 NFL Draft on April 30.[10] He struggled during preseason as a backup left tackle and was released on August 31.[11] He was signed to the practice squad on September 2.[12] He was promoted to the active roster on December 10, 2019.[13] He was declared inactive for the last 3 games.

On August 27, 2020, he suffered a torn right ACL during practice. On September 2, he was waived/injured by the Cowboys.[14] He subsequently reverted to the team's injured reserve list the next day.[15]

In 2021, he suffered a knee sprain during conditioning work in OTAs.[16] On July 27, 2021, Hyatt was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.[17]

Absolutely! Every player was EXTREMELY important for the Championships.

What I was meaning was, without the Leaders of that 2018 team going to the Coach about the QB position, the 2018 team would probably not have finished 15-0 and with the title. Who knows how it would have turned out, but if the loyalty shown to KB was like that shown to DJU......how much would TLAW have played?

The leaders of that 2018 team KNEW it was their ONLY shot! Had to put it ALL on the line and give themselves the BEST hand they could........TLAW starting as QB....NOT KB.

Go Tigers!!!
