Thinking about the actual idea of Venables

Look, I am NOT advocating the idea of Brent losing his job.
But I am more curious than anything…
I guess they still have a bowl game to play, but do we expect him to keep his job there? They are 6-6.
Oklahoma has never been a program to allow any head coach go that long if they were like this.
Brent lost Dillon Gabriel to Oregon last year, and now they went 6-6. And now they have some QB commit they think is good.
But who cares? They’re barely bowl eligible
I honest to God think it would be better for all parties if they went separate ways.
I don’t know what is truly good for Brent. But being the best DC in the nation at Clemson was his strong suit.
Sorry I have to say that, but it’s crazy obvious that he thrived the most he ever did in his whole career in that position.

Venables has been gone from Clemson for several years and living in the past is not healthy.

To your thoughts, BV is going thru what many do

When they leave a job or position they excel in and go up to a higher level of management or responsibility..
And perform way below their and others expectations.
BV is in that hole right now..but not ever coming back to Clemson, nor is Jeff Scott, as a multi-millionaire many times over.

Stoops is not known for sitting around. When the natives get restless they will be whining to The Man. And he will always be Mr. Oklahoma

Brent Venables never had it this good.
Since he’s a sure thing to be retained through 2025 season, his compensation from being OK HC for 4 years will provide him with far more money than he had made the previous-to-being-HC years of his life.

I imagine they’ll be paying players $40 million by the year 2035.
I’m sure they prepared a pile of money in case Venables didn’t work out.
I mean, he was in no way a for sure success at all. A very good hire, but they definitely should’ve known there was a chance he wouldn’t pan out.
Therefore, his buyout was maybe set aside.
Especially at Oklahoma where they are in a carousel situation now.

Wrong. His seat is on fire. I think the Alabama game + throwing his OC under the bus bought him a year, but it wouldn't shock me if boosters forced his firing now. And I don't think he survives next season without a clear turnaround.

Maybe I'm wrong, but if BV were fired from Oklahoma, I would imagine he would use his free time to be there for his wife instead of jumping right back into coaching.

More than anything else I would want for Clemson football
The only thing I would want more than BV back at DC is for Dabo to stay at Head Coach.
Anything else I would out BV over
If you think I’m exaggerating, you’re an idiot
But you’re probably not an idiot

Then you base your life solely around Clemson football and you have bigger fish to fry. College football is just a form of entertainment for a few weekends in the fall / winter nothing more.

Well they just lost to Navy and went for a 2pt conv and failed rather than extra point to tie. That decision alone could be the last nail.
I want them to fire him today. If he wants to coach after Ok, I'd put money on it he'd take the DC job under Dabo before anything else.
Anyone want to chip in to help OK pay his 40mil buyout?

I live in Oklahoma and fans are not happy. The general consensus seems to be to give him another year though. This year was never expected to be a title contention year for them. They had a ton of injuries at WR/OL. Their defense was pretty solid for most of the year. However, he will be facing an uphill climb this year. His 5 star QB transferred to Auburn, the freshman backup is rough as a passer (though he is incredibly athletic). They were banking on him taking the reigns from Gabriel but that didn't work out. They had something like 25 transfers out of the program as well so they will need to backfill with the portal, and we all know how hit or miss that can be. I think his job is safe for another season from all my Sooner alumni coworkers, but the seat is starting to get warm.
