Well, there's 2 sports at Clemson that's never won an acc championship.
*Gymnastics - not competing yet
*Lacrosse - only women team 1st year
Women's soccer - (18 seasons and shared reg season acc twice)
Basketball - men's (60 years - nadda)
Yes, we have a vb acc trophy, yes we have a rowing championship. Yes, multiple bball women trophies. That's actually pitiful when you break it down considering the millions we've dumped into men's basketball.

Mens Basketball did win the regular season ACC in 1990.

Our record was 10-4. And then, the very next year, it slipped to 2-12.
Brad Brownell hasn't even come close to winning the ACC.
And yes, there are a lot more teams in the ACC now. But NO, there are not any BETTER teams in the ACC now than there were back then.

Just my opinion, nothing more, but I believe Brad has made friends in high places at Clemson, and understandably so, who "convinced" Neff to let BB hang on for one more year. Basically, the same people who hired Neff wanted to give Brad one more chance. I don't think Neff wanted to rock that boat in year one.
