Re: They were getting kickbacks from the drug companies, for one***

This is true.

Ever noticed, upon going to different specialists, that most doctors are participating in clinical trials for late stage developmental pharmaceuticals or for already launched pharmaceuticals in which actual real world case study data is meager?

It’s because doctors get paid for their part in conducting that aspect of clinical trials.

Who pays them?

The pharmaceutical companies who are endeavoring to get more real world efficacy &/or safety data to support their new high cost drugs.

Xxxxxxx

Ever notice the correlation between a doctor who changes his/her recommendation for a drug from an old, off-patent (cheap) drug that has extensive history of high safety + works perfectly well for the patient and pushes a new ‘better’ drug that doesn’t yet have the real world safety track record? Wonder why this happens? (Hint: It isn’t coincidence.)

It’s because (1) the doctor is participating in a pharma company sponsored trial &/or (2) the doctor gets lavish non-cash rewards such as all expense paid trips to exotic vacation venues to attend a ‘conference’ sponsored by the pharma company.

Xxxxxxxx

Yet, the pro-vax sheep … you know, the hoard who parrots whatever line that the Democrat administration at the time tells them to say … blindly follow doctors’ recommendations without either asking questions or by asking the doctor to hold off on writing the prescription for a little while (during which time the patient can do some research and seek feedback from friends and acquaintances about their experiences with the drug).

Per your points Danny, ever wonder why some doctors would flat out refuse to listen to colleagues who were saying they had great success treating Covid with cheap, extremely safe Ivermectin? Ever wonder why pharm companies were so desperate to shut down even discussion about a cheap alternative? Ever wonder why many politicians did the same?

The sentence should have begun with some. Record numbers of people took to the woods, waters and trails during COVID, as well as they should have.

I think the goal was to discourage large gatherings of people in close proximity whether inside or outside.

Most doctors did not discourage outdoor activities.

No. Politicians did that unilaterally perhaps with the advice of some public health officials.

Doctors can’t make you do anything.

Sure, Fauci, the CDC and perhaps some DHEC officials were way too quick to recommend measures that in many cases weren’t warranted.

The problem though is that Governors throughout the country chose to force folks to do things without calling the legislature into emergency session, having informed debate and actually passing laws.

We had 50 essentially monarchs ruling unilaterally. That should not happen. Arbitrary prohibitions were made that made no sense.

Sure, some in the public health sector failed, but most rank and file doctors themselves enjoyed the outdoors early and often during COVID.

Most have a forum about as large as yours. Did you march in front of the State House?

Your point is well taken that the advice from Fauci, et al continued to be very restrictive long after everyone realized what the threat really posed and to whom.

My point is the vast majority of doctors did NOT recommend abandoning outdoor activities.

Henry McMaster closed the boat ramps in SC, not any doctor.

Bar hours were imposed by politicians. Businesses were restricted by politicians, not doctors.

It’s ok to criticize higher up public health officials, but I assure you, most doctors were chaffing just as much as everyone else under these arbitrary prohibitions.

As RPMcMurphy® said, where were the voices of those doctors who disagreed with the misguided authoritarian mandates from the states, and from the propaganda of the national health authorities?

It’s only anecdote (based on family experiences and experiences shared by friends), but here goes:

Allergist: All in on the vax and sequestration mandates. She poo-poo’d me as a nut when citing CDC studies which reported that flu deaths in NYC area went to zero in Nov + Dec 2020 … while Covid deaths soared during that period. She referred to the recommendations of the AMA. After this brief exchange, my ‘time was up’ and further questions (including those about vax safety concerns) were shut down.

Psychiatrist: My nephew’s father in law is a psychiatrist; I get along well with this guy. Upon asking about the risk / reward balance with respect to COVID itself vs vax safety concerns, he went automaton and loyally parroted the AMA’s summary as if it were The Ten Commandments. Upon asking whether he’d had an opportunity to check medical opinions that differed from the AMA’s (such as Peter McCullough’s), he admitted that he had not actually read the AMA articles. Instead, he read the summary statements. He was man enough to admit that he had other things to do than read ‘fringe’ medical articles that were counter to AMA recommendations.

Gastroenterologist: She was adamantly opposed to the vax, citing that safety studies were incomplete. Furthermore, she recommended to her staff that they should not take the vax until after all safety data had been gathered and compiled.

OK, I’ve got something else to do. Bye for now.

continues still. Now doctors are being made into the boogie-men.

A new, very real virus from China suddenly appears and starts spreading like wildfire, killing and making a lot of people very very sick. Our president acts boldy and quickly, fast-tracking a vaccine in an attempt to save lives. Almost immediately, this very real and deadly medical problem becomes politicized, and the fools and nutjobs pile on.

The good news is we pretty much beat that virus. The bad news is, we seem to have a growing, more troubling epidemic ... of ignorance and stupidity, and it won't be solved by choosing a political side either.

Outdoor gatherings were discouraged by medical authorities UNTIL the BLM riots at which point the same authorities said it would be perfectly acceptable for large outdoor gatherings, but only for that purpose. Guess murder, arson and looting provide some semblance of protection from the horrors of COVID. That's when normal people should have realized they couldn't trust the medical authorities about anything any more.

The chronic hand-washers is another funny group.

Re: Total distrust for the medical community!!! Think about how many people die in hospitals!***

1

May 20, 2023, 1:36 PM

It isn’t now nor has it ever been TOTAL distrust of the medical community.

Rather, skepticism about the medical communities’ willingness to keep up with current medical issues and look into viewpoints that are provided in the summary section of AMA journals or from what information from visiting pharmaceutical sales reps is provided to them.

Some physicians do this … that takes more / extra work than many physicians are willing to do. While it’s reasonable for doctors to want a life outside of their practice, that desire doesn’t equate with the doctor keeping up completely with developments in his / her area of specialization. Even more so is this the case with general practitioners / primary care physicians.

Again, some doctors do a better job of ‘looking behind the curtain’ with respect to medical / disease awareness, while other doctors don’t do as good of a job.

Total distrust? That’s hyperbole.
