Can anybody explain why we abandoned the Jumbo Formation

Later in the season? It was essentially a guaranteed 6 points in goal line situations, but it seemed as if we abandoned it entirely in the 2nd half of the season. I think this does an excellent job explaining just how dynamic the system is for us...

Thoughts on why we quit using it? Because I'm truly baffled

Dang - I was thinking the exact same thing today. I love that package. Just the idea of it is awesome. Did it just not work for some reason?
Good post - hope you get an answer on this.

Exactly. Wilkins is so versatile, he could be used in running AND receiving situations. I found my self literally yelling at my television "JUMBO! JUMBO!" several times on short yardage situations

Agree. It was successul, until we tried pitching to run wide

We got too cute. When we run it STRAIGHT forward, we almost always gained at least 1 yard.

That's because they went sideways with it instead of straight forward.

It failed because the R OG whiffed on his block. Any formation will fail with a complete non block like that.

Where it was the number 1 option. Other than the 4th down try in the first quarter against Alabama. We could have used it then. I would have like to seen us line up and then run a pass variation in that instance.

Not too many plays work when you don't block the potential tackler(s).

We did not run it against Alabama because it would have been playing into their strength. A spread team spreads the field, that is what we do. Space and speed.
