this post has the appearance of a Covid Bored post

Nov 9, 2021, 8:51 AM

but it's going on The Lunge because it's more an observation about stupid human tricks than Covid.

I thought the same thing watching the NLCS

Nov 9, 2021, 8:55 AM

when they were in LA the stadium was packed and no one had on masks. Found it strange seeing as how CA has some of the most strict mandates, etc.

Q. Why do immigrants and adjustment of status applicants have to show proof they have received certain vaccinations?

A. In 1996, Congress provided in legislation that every immigrant entering the United States, or every individual seeking adjustment of status to that of a legal permanent resident, show proof that he or she was vaccinated against vaccine-preventable diseases. The text for this requirement is in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii).

Is there any evidence whatsoever?

Nov 9, 2021, 11:18 AM [ in reply to There are some reports out there saying as many as 40k ]

Or are we just trusting the word of the former acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection who was in office for all of two months in 2019?

“We know that everybody being released, they’re not being tested. We know that,” he said at the briefing sponsored by the Heritage Foundation.

How do we know that? Where is the evidence? And wait a second - how were they both COVID-positive but also they're not being tested? Schrodinger's COVID.

This is why conservative media is garbage. "Crackpot makes absurd, baseless claim" is the entire story. And someone might be like, "Are you calling Yahoo News conservative?" but then you look closer and realize this was actually posted in the Washington Examiner.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I posted some more links above if you don't like that one

Nov 9, 2021, 11:25 AM

I think logically it's safe to say they test when they see someone having symptoms. Given that there's tens of millions of illegal immigrants in the country, probably also safe to say many of those that were covid positive are now frolicking freely across the country. This is while we're forcing private businesses to fire people for not getting vaccinated(not people on govt benefits tho!). It's almost as if one is given preferential treatment for not being a contributing citizen to this country.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would believe there are 100 migrants allowed in who

Nov 9, 2021, 11:48 AM

may or may not have COVID. That's a little different than 40,000 definitely COVID+ migrants dumped into our cities. The article I posted mentioned there were exceptions to the rule of expelling migrants illegally crossing the border, so it stands to reason some make it through. It's such a small number that the hypocrisy argument doesn't hold up ("They let in HORDES of sick ILLEGALS but we have to wear MASKS!!").

As for vaccine mandates for people on Welfare, I don't have a problem with that and I wonder if there's a legal way to enforce it. I think with private companies they're able to enforce it through OSHA, which wouldn't apply to people on Welfare. Just like we can require vaccines for legal immigrants, but not for migrants detained by ICE. Amazingly, not everything is a nefarious conspiracy.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure they can enforce it through OSHA

Nov 9, 2021, 12:01 PM

As of now it's been put on hold, even though the Biden admin is telling private businesses to enforce it anyway. Still crickets from the anti-fascist crowd lol.

We have been letting in illegal immigrants by the millions for years, the very fact that they'll let any in while trying to mandate American citizens to vaccinate is ridiculous.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

back and forth, but I don't want to do that. Who knows what is actually true and accurate? Again, I'm very pro-vax/mask and always have been. But agree that some of the mandates seem a bit heavy-handed... especially when some of the biggest proponents are themselves caught breaking their own rules.

"President Biden’s own Chief of Staff Ronald Klain acknowledged the federal government lacks the legal authority to impose a COVID-19 mandate".

"The federal government does not require migrants to get vaccinated in immigration detention facilities. ICE says it cannot force individuals in detention to be vaccinated but does encourage vaccinations".

smoking cigarettes and writing something nasty on the wall

It's not disinformation.

Nov 9, 2021, 11:37 AM

For people we let in, which is to say legal immigrants, there is a vaccine requirement.

As for why the federal government has the authority to require the vaccine for people who immigrate legally but not for migrants who are detained by ICE, I would defer to a Lounge legal expert. But I would say if they're being detained, then they will almost certainly be expelled back to their own country, which makes their vaccination status irrelevant.

Some people like to play the whole "filthy, disease-carrying immigrants" card to whip up nativist insecurities. Don't fall for it. As Lakebum said, Covid certainly adds a "fun new twist" to immigration debates.

Vaccine and mask mandates are inconsistent and that can be annoying I guess. It's certainly annoying when politicians think they're exempt from their own rules. Of all the things to be upset about in the world, though, that seems like a pretty low priority.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I understand, and I've never thought everybody trying to

Nov 9, 2021, 2:21 PM

enter the USA illegally was "filthy & disease carrying". But common sense tells me that nobody in this group of folks has a valid, up-to-date vaxx card. I mean, they have nothing. A family of four has been living off a couple Twix bars and drinking water we wouldn't give our dogs. If the federal guvmint can't force them to get vaxxed, but a pregnant nurse can get fired because she has some concerns about it... does that seem right to you? I don't know, man. Maybe I'm all wet here.

edit: I guess I'm just starting to question some things. I posted several weeks ago that vaxx mandates are nothing new: Kids have always had to have em to attend school, and they've been mandatory in the military forever. Suck it up and get the jab. So I'm not anti-vaxx. Nor am I a Trumper or Qanon or whatever. I've ridiculed those people, what few times I even post on the subject. I typically avoid the P&R Forum. All I'm saying is, people who might have legitimate concerns... maybe they shouldn't lose their careers over it. Especially if it's not going to be by-god enforced everywhere.

Interesting thing they're doing in Singapore

Nov 9, 2021, 10:40 AM [ in reply to I admit that I don't understand the logic of most anti-vaxxers ]

There is no vaccine "mandate" in Singapore. BUT, if you refuse to get one, you're stuck with the hospital bill. On your own there. Guess this is why we will never have single-payer in the US.

HOWEVER, I find it a total double standard to deny someone employment in their job (a TAXABLE income) if they refuse a vaccine, even if they're not a federal employee. Military? Sure. Federal workers, sure. But ANY company with over 100 employees? You're losing a taxpayer there. Total garbage. And yet if you're on medicaid/care and don't get the vaccine, Uncle Sam gladly pays for your healthcare and hospitalization. But you will never see Biden denying payment for covid medical care to the poor who don't have jobs anyway. But will for those who do?

Nope. Total cluster #### IMO with the mandates. We'd be better served denying medicaid/care/VA payments. They have a financial leg to stand on there at least.

As for losing taxpayers because people lose their jobs due to vaxx requirements, when push comes to shove most of those people would sooner get vaxxed than lose their jobs.

Nov 9, 2021, 10:58 AM

Technically you should always be expected to meet your deductible and pay your share. But for those unemployed, bringing in no taxes to Uncle Sam, you won't find Biden making THEM pay, or denying THEM anything. Just makes no sense, the whole thing. All the more reason to leverage the non-taxpayers into compliance over the taxpayers.
