I'm about to vent about the USMNT

I was there for the embarrassment against Venezuela. I plan to be there for the Gold Cup final. This result was an embarrassment!
If this team plays Mexico in the final, they will be ran off the field. We're so bad in the midfield and the attacking third, we might as well play 7 in the back line.
The defense was horrible too, but I've come to expect that from the USMNT.
This was the worst showing by the USMNT I've ever seen. I'm including the T&T debacle.
Hang up the boots USA. We're an embarrassment to the sport.

I agree. My son plays competitive club soccer so we follow the sport closely.
Just no creativity or play making ability at all. Pulisic is our best player and is he even a Top 100 player in the world?
I really dont know what the issue is with US Soccer. We played a team last night (Curacao) who has a population of Huntsville Alabama and even though we won they had the better of play most of the night.

Eh. I never thought he was anything special at Dortmund. Plus he got bought by Chelsea. Come on, those posh a holes aren't exactly transfer geniuses. There is a reason he elected to join the usmnt and not the Croatian one, he wouldn't standout enough to advance his career. I bet he regretted that decision the last go around watching Croatia in the final at home from the couch.

And there are many reasons he might prefer to play for the US rather than Croatia. I mean he IS American.. he was born in PA, and there's more to everything than just winning.

given opportunities. The midfield is currently terrible though. It's time to call up some more of the promising youngsters. I'd like to see Tyler Adams in the MF with McKennie when he's healthy again and eventually Josh Sargent and maybe Paxton Pomykul added to the attack.
Also, Michael Bradley still does some good things but he cannot play holding mid anymore. He can't move out there at all.
Don't know what to say about the defense. It's been a mess for awhile now. Curacao opened them up far too easily with long balls from midfield. Felt like there was just far too much space between our defenders. And nobody seems willing to make a tackle out in space. Time and again last night we had guys just dropping back and letting the Curacao players drive at them right up the edge of the 18 before they would finally make a challenge.

I don't know how anyone can expect the sport to catch on nationally when the U.S. can't filed a team who can beat a country the size of Spartanburg.

USSF doesn't care about the USMNT. Berhalter over Martino for coach was insane. Calling in Bradley, Altidore, and OG is extremely disappointing.
However, until they get run out by Mexico, save this for later. They won, but they've had games like this before under Bradley and Klinnsmann. I wouldn't rank it lower than T&T, pump the brakes on that.

He sucked before he had the arm band and he sucked when he had the arm band. He shouldn't be on the team. Going into the tournament, I thought Bradley deserved to be there. I've definitely flipped on that one.
I'm still holding out hope on Altidore. He could finish against T&T. Zardes is not my 9. Especially when he had no impact against Curacao.

Terrible finisher, atrocious 1st touch, no balls skills, not a skilled passer... He really has none of the qualities of a good attacker aside from running a lot and putting himself into some good positions (which he then squanders because of the above issues).

They will get upset with Americans who don’t care, even though those same fans, just days earlier, told those who don’t care how popular soccer is in America now, and there is nothing anyone can do to slow its momentum.

We need a young Beasley, a young Donovan, a Deuce or a Jermaine Jones.
None of our current guys are that hungry.
Result of US pay to play system.

in between the Donovan and Dempsey group and the young guys like Pulisic who are just now starting to arrive where we produced virtually no international quality players. That's been as much of a problem as anything.

I hear this pay-to-play argument all the time and just don't get it. If the youth system is the problem, why are our youth teams so much more successful?
As for the current team, it certainly is embarrassing that we struggled mightily against Curacao, but we are implementing a new system. I will withhold judgement until we have had some time to get it down. That said, I for one would prefer we go all-in on the youth. Bradley and Altidore may (MAY) give us a better chance to win today, but if they are key to 2022 qualifying, we have big problems.

Word of advice...
Jul 1, 2019, 5:18 PM

Don’t come on tigernet expecting an intelligent discussion about soccer.
Although it is historically and currently the 2nd most successful sport at our university, it’s gets the 4th most support.
If it’s not American football, baseball, hunting or fishing, most southern rednecks don’t want to talk about it and actually belittle it by calling it communistic (just because we as a nation are not good at it).
