The unemotional analytic assessment

1. Our wide receivers cannot get separation. I am not quite sure if it is lack of physical talent or that out passing schemes have become predictable.
2. Both our O-line and our D-line got whipped at ND. I was especially surprised by the D-line. I did not think ND could just line up and stick it in our ear like that. When was the last time someone had two 100-yard rushers against us ?
3. The problem last night was not DJ. He went 27 for 39 with one interception.

they had a 230 pound beast at running back and used three tight ends to seal off the ends on outside sweeps

That's what they did but why didn't we stop it. Marshall and Stanford seemed ok.

I don't think Goodwin was prepared for a nine-man offensive line. A 4- or 5-man defensive front has no chance against that. Every defender was double-teamed and driven back into the linebackers. Combine that with one broken tackle after another, and you've got a recipe for disaster... which is exactly what we experienced. Wes never made an adjustment against that alignment. If you saw him on the sideline, he was like a deer in the headlights.

On offense it's the scheme. On defense I'm totally shocked how this season has gone.

I'm not blaming DJ, but 27 of 39 is misleading. Probably 1/2 of his completions were either behind the line of scrimmage or just past it. The really good passing stat to look at is yards per attempt - that was 4.89 yds per attempt. Not good, by anyone's standard. Even the ND qb, who only threw for 85 yards had a better yds per attempt.

We had 71 total offensive yards at the half. That means the QB, OC, OL and everybody was the problem. DJ padded his stats in garbage time after the game was decided.

Agree with both of you. From 2014 to 2019, we had the speed to win battles all over the field but many of those guys are playing on Sunday now. You get faster with recruiting or a new tool called the Portal.

There is video on YT that shows how often one of our receivers or TEs were open but it wasnt DJd primary target and he didnt see them or his progression was so slow that he was getting pressure by time he saw them. That video will make you pull your hair out. Don't remember the name of the guy but he makes a bunch of rewind football videos showing where teams make mistakes and DJ was a super problem in our offense last night

Our WR get separation I’ve been to every home game this year and there are plenty of plays that a WR is open and are just simply missed

And against good secondaries receivers get helped out by the QB by getting thrown open but that doesn’t happen anymore DJ throws up a 50/50

27 completions for 191 yards and 4.9 yards/attempt. I garbage td and 1 pick six. Overall, pretty lousy.
