I think your right about the top half of the conferences but the bottom half is pretty bad in the ACC. Wake, UNC, and UVA are really bad. They have Cal and Colorado but the rest is decent.

I think Oregon would smash FSU, especially if it was Autzen, but the others all look pretty darn close.

You know each conference has more than four teams, right?***

Oregon state lost to a FCS team

Wassu beat USC at USC. Utah looks like the spunky BC type team. The bottom of every conference has the really bad and the just average. You judge conferences on their strength not really their weakness.

PAC-12 is 29-5 in non-conference games...

Best win percentage in the nation. They are 21-4 against FBS teams. The ACC is 33-10 in non-conference games (21-10 vs. FBS teams), 5th in the nation.

To me it doesn't matter. The point is that the ACC competes.

I don't care if some "expert" calculates the PAC12 at a 0.796853 and the ACC at a 0.774392. For the last couple of years the ACC has been obviously down. Now that's not the case. And that's a good thing.

Yes, the ACC is having an excellent year, IMO.

A solid 3rd behind the SEC and PAC-12 is a big improvement.

But most of those OOC games are mismatches

The Marquee OOC wins of this season belong to the ACC. If this stat tells the whole tale then why isn't the PAC-12 better than the SEC.

You have to balance the wins and the schedule...

I have the PAC-12's OOC schedule as 5th-toughest, and the ACC's as 2nd-toughest. I have the SEC 3rd-toughest.

The PAC 12 dosent schedule cream puffs

In OOC either. They only play 3 non conference game and most of then schedule 1 or even 2 other major conference teams, usually the big 10

3-2 against the Big Ten, and 1-1 against the SEC.
Others:

I agree the ACC is not strong top to bottom
Oct 18, 2013, 2:54 PM

But I don't think it is clearly much different from PAC-12 and the bottom half of the SEC. The problem comes when UGA has injuries needs a touchback in overtime on the road to beat a Tennessee team that was fired up. No body thinks anything of it even calling it a good win for Georgia. Then Miami goes to chapel hill on a Thursday has injuries to star players wins in regulation against a desperate UNC team. Then the pundits says this shows the weakness of the ACC. I don't get it.

When I think of conferences, I think of all the conference.

Now, if you frame it, "Which conference has the best top five?" then you have a different argument.

Here's how the two conferences break down to me:
Oct 18, 2013, 3:01 PM
|

If you take the top four from each, I agree the ACC is a little better:
Clemson, Florida St., Miami, Virginia Tech Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Washington
The bottom two are better in the ACC, too, I think:
North Carolina, Virginia California, Colorado
But the teams in between the top four and the bottom two? PAC-12 blows the ACC away
Maryland, Pitt, Georgia Tech, NC State, Syracuse, BC, Wake, Duke Oregon St., Washington St., USC, Arizona St., Arizona, Utah

Wisconsin was robbed and OSU destroyed cal. That OOC was a wash in my mind.

GT beat USC in a west coast bowl last year. And GT maybe one of the worst teams in the ACC this year.

That the middle sections could compete in games with each other. And if you could then where does this clearly better argument come from.

Or it is at least close enough speculation wise that I wish the guys that influence voters would start thinking that way.
