Changed my first tire on the side of the interstate. Checking in alive. I have had more than three, probably 5 or so claims with people killed changing tires on the side of the interstate. Dangerous. Of course it was my mom, and she called stranded. *hp never showed. I drove 20 minutes to her, spent 10 minutes changing it, and we left and the the SCHP calls like 20 minutes AFTER that. They're about worthless.... unless there's a wreck I guess. I was impressed years back when I called to report a drunk driver. They had dispatch and me talking to the trooper who was waiting at the next exit ramp then pounced.

20 years driving, close to a million miles, I've had ONE flat, in a parking lot. My mother has had like 4 in the past 10 years. My wife, none ever.

What is it about mom and tires?

Seems like AAA is so reasonable to avoid that risk. Does she not have?

No, she has a son who lives (too) close by.

Inlaws have AAA, and it took them 2 HOURS on the side of the interstate to get help.

You're on your own out there these days., You better have a spare, and whatever, because NO ONE stops to help, and HP, SHEP, and AAA take forever.

Took me longer to find the tire iron than to do everything else. Seems mom or someone put it in a blue baggie, and had it shoved in the back corner of the trunk, and not next to the jack, which would make way too much sense.

Sounds like mom needs AA instead of AAA***

On the new stretch of I-26 they could send 100 troopers out there

and they could not keep up writing tickets for ONLY the people going 85mph+ in that 24 mile stretch.

The traffic flow in that area (where I changed the tire) AVERAGES probably 80-82mph.

And Cootlumbia is a good place to make up time on the long ride between Orlando and ____

North Florida on 95 too. Georgia is always full of local cops and 26 in either direction you're stuck behind some moron doing 63mph because there's a truck one mile ahead they intend to pass sometime in the next century

Get some fix a flat. As long as the tire is intact it will get you off the road.***

Whole inside sidewall was shredded. I'm thinking dry rot. Her other tires looked good, but she keeps armor all on the outside sidewalls. I expect on a lift, you'd find the inside tire walls are dry rotted. She's had those tires since before covid, and she parks outside.

She only drives once or twice a week to doctor appointments.

Now I always have my portable rechargeable compressor by B&D. Will probably get one to the next exit anyway.

I really want a full sized spare tire, like Toyota used to have.

I drive long distances, and if I have a flat in Little River, or HogWaller, or Hilton Head, driving back to Lexington on a doughnut doesn't sound like fun, nor does sitting hours in some random tire place in those places getting a new tire put on.

Years back, when I had my ONE flat tire, had a full-size spare. Threw it on (in Greenville), and drove 2.5 hours home on the interstate fine. Fixed it a few days later AT MY LEISURE.

away from the line, and the tire was right front, away from the traffic. Still on concrete. Biggest danger was if she didn't put the parking brake on, like the last time, when it fell off the jack and I jumped back to avoid a bad injury. I rocked it hard back and forth before messing with anything to make sure she'd put the parking brake on this time.
