Have we now officially missed a Golden Opportunity to join the SEC

when we could have - a decision which will be very costly over the next number of seasons. Neff's update to All would appear as though Clemson will be riding with the ACC for at least the next several years time. But then will it be too late?

grant of rights AND an invitation to the SEC, there was no decision.
The closest thing to a decision on this issue was made 7 years ago when the ACC locked themselves into the ridiculous 20 year contract.

If that opportunity had arisen we would have taken it by now

No idea if it was ever offered prior to execution of the ACC GOR, but with how the conferences were postured back then I am guessing not.
I have long maintained that as difficult of a pill as it is to swallow, the SEC does not need us. I still fear they will never come calling. I hope I am wrong (or at a minimum that the B1G does).

The Big don't needs us either bc it isn't about how good of a program a school has, it's all about the money that can be made by having them through TV commercial deals, and they don't gain anything by having us with USUC being a member of the SEC. Look how long they have sucked in the SEC, and the SEC is ok with that.

It is not a matter of whether either conference wants us (I think we are still attractive enough for both conferences to want us). It is a matter of who might want us enough to fund the 120 million dollar buyout. NOBODY wants us that bad.

What did you want Neff to say?

We're in the ACC til we're not. Talking publicly about any desire to be elsewhere serves no purpose and does nothing to further that goal.

Neff clearly said that both internal and external discussions have and are taking place. That’s where things stand, and of course may not elevate to an offer to leave for another conference. However, it’s better than sitting on the sidelines waiting for another conference to call out of the blue. These discussions allow those Clemson is speaking with to understand where we stand with regards to realignment.

When did Clemson have an invitation to the SEC? When did Clemson find a way out of the grant of right?
What if ESPN is sold or goes bankrupt ( they already are) and they can’t pay all the money .

This is a really good point. Disney's already discussing spinning ESPN off as an independent company again due to their financials.
https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/disney-may-consider-spinning-off-espn-into-separate-company-20230804-WST-447738.html
Most recent article I can find, dated August 2023.
Disney has been losing tons of money the last couple of years, from flops at the box offices to dwindling park admissions and millions leaving Disney+. It is possible and feasible that ESPN could be spun off or Disney try to eliminate it's highest contracts in a debt consolidation. #1 on that list is the conference payouts. If they default, then only the B1G with it's contract with Fox will still be collecting fat TV revenues.

Disney is losing money because they are trying to push a new culture on a country that isn’t buying it and is walking. The only thing Disney I do watch or support is ESPN and if it wasn’t for college sports I would shut that off too. I want to see Mickey Mouse chase Minne, not Mickey Screwing Donald.

FSU was howling at the moon about leaving, but they have shut up and are still here. That says all we need to know.

I know the money is a huge factor, but honestly, who the hell wants to be in the SEC anymore? It's almost as if they've overbuilt the conference and now are faced with eating their own. Take a gander at South Carolina's schedule next year. It is brutal. Too much of a good thing if you ask me! As long as we can make enough money to stay competitive, then screw the SEC.

It seems like the ACC is doing just fine. I expect the ACC will get a new media deal before long. I would much rather the ACC stay intact and get an updated media deal. I simply can't stand the SUC. Go Tigers!!!

There has been zero interest from them in having us join the SEC. Just like zero interest from the B1G.
Now if one ever does actually show interest then the other might.
But yeah - there was no window.
