Miami won Saturday but opted out of the ACCCG, deciding to rest their players because they are satisfied with their playoff resume, and don’t want to risk losing and being left out? Would SMU win by forfeit, or would we get Miami’s spot? Would the committee punish Miami for being cowards?
Would being guaranteed a spot in the ACCCG and a path to the CFP make us more or less likely to put up a complete game Saturday?
Before you bash, please understand that this is a total hypothetical, this is a message board, and it is a slow day. With all of the talk about penalizing championship game losers, I thought it might be fun to discuss. Not suggesting that a scenario like this would ever happen.

We win on Sat and Miami loses. We jump to #9 in poll.
Then we lose ACCCG. What happens then? Are we in or do we drop below #11-12?

Indeed … a 10-3 Tiger team will be outside looking in at the playoffs.
If that happens I will happily focus on the Holiday Bowl or the Mayonnaise Bowl or whichever …

Miami’ defense in itself should eliminate them. They are good on one side of the ball only.

Last year, there were lots of FSU fans who wanted us to opt out of the Orange Bowl. It was never seriously discussed. But, I don't think we could have even if we had wanted to.
It's not like 40 years ago when a bowl would extend an invitation and a team could decline. Today, the bowls are tied up with contracts with the conferences. The conference gets the money. I doubt a team could opt out without suffering severe monetary consequences from the conference.
I would assume the same would hold true for conference championships. The ACC makes a lot of money from the game in Charlotte. Since we're talking hypotheticals, what if one year FSU and Clemson were both 12-0 and both teams decided not to play the game in Charlotte. Do you think the ACC would just say, "OK, well let SMU and Louisville play"?
I would suspect the fine would be so severe neither team would consider it.
Now, a not so hypothetical question is, what about teams who are confident they are in the playoff even with a loss? (Ohio State and Oregon this year.) Will they sit players who are nursing injuries, or maybe even sit a couple of players to protect from injury?

if either team does that (and admits it), I am pulling for the other…even if that makes me a Buckeye fan for a day
Teams should have some pride and competitiveness. But if players can opt out for themselves, I guess it is not such a stretch that a coach can make the decision for them. But if I were a player (either the one sitting or a teammate), I would be pi$$ed.
And remember that the conference championship does get a bye.
