If Tigers Hold LSU 2 season low yrds/pts

Jan 12, 2020, 1:07 AM

If the Clemson Tigers hold the vaunted LSU offense to season low points and yards - where does that put Coach V in terms of HC offers? Demand for his services are already high - but if our defense can come out and execute a great plan and slow down or hopefully stop LSU - they will throw the kitchen sink at him.

I don't think he leaves his kid to go somewhere else right away; but the offers would come nonetheless.

I love the extra time they provided between semi-final and finals from a prep stand point. And to think, it was probably due to the complaints from Bama about being tired. LSU blew out Oklahoma who struggled against average teams the last half of the season and should be well rested.

BV having extra time to study an opponent is not a good thing for them. LSU is talented and will likely make some plays. If so, tip your hat and keep playing ball. But, be willing to put money the concept to stop the play was there. If they execute better then you give credit where it's due. I just have a feeling we come out and slow them down way more than I am hearing from the experts! Who apparently don't know BV who has been doing it for years! LSU has been doing it for a season.
Is New Orleans in the playoffs(where J. Brady came from)? No. So, somebody knew how to stop Drew Brees/S. Payton offensive concepts. No need to think BV and Clemson can't!

It puts him at Clemson where he has said numerous times that he and his family was content and very happy at. And where he can do what he has said he loves doing more than anything, and that's hands on coaching a defence!!!

He has been pretty clear about staying at Clemson

Jan 12, 2020, 5:47 AM

If you are making 2 million a year and are very happy and your family is happy there is no reason to leave. Everybody assumes that money drives everything. He's about to get another raise. There is not a whole lot of difference between 2 and 10 million a year. Both are enough to buy anything most people would want.

He said he sold the Clemson dream to his sons. He's not leaving them. His daughter loves Clemson, he's not taking her away.

What do you think Brent Venables wants to buy that he can't get for 2$2 million dollars per year ??

When Brent & the defense are through with Joe Burreaux on Monday night he'll be able to wear his ### for a hat! They have not seen a team like Clemson and when Burrito leaves LSU the dynasty will just be a thing of the past...LSU will be a milking GOAT! Burrito and LSU were not built for the future...he was an unused commodity and they lured him away from a place where he was going to watch...watch not start...Brent will make him an observer again!

He looks like the happiest man alive right now! His world is perfect, what more could he want?

If he really wants to then he can always leave in 5 plus years, after his kids have graduated, and still get a big pay day as a HC.

I think he's a lifer though.

A lot.

Luckily he's too smart for that.

The "Peter Principle"

Jan 12, 2020, 9:19 AM

From Wikipedia (yeah, I know, but not everything on there is garbage)

"The Peter principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their "level of incompetence": an employee is promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another."

I say, the wise man knows when he reaches his optimal level of competence & does not let greed or ego lure him into a job at which he will not be as successful.

I'm not saying that Venables wouldn't be a good HC, but there's no guarantee. Why kill your own golden goose?

I think we have very wise coaches who truly appreciate & enjoy what they have.

BTW, he is making very good money & also has the things that money alone can not buy. Who would you rather be, BV making $2M a year & earning rings or potentially the next Jim Harbaugh making $7.5M a year - winless against OSU, a winning percentage of about 10% against top ten teams plus zero play-off appearances.

How about Scott Frost? He makes $5M a year & is 9-15 at the train wreck that is Nebraska.

I agree. Brent would likely earn $3-$5 million A year in his first contract. No head coaching experience would keep that number low. He will likely make close to $3 million at Clemson next year. Does he leave his kids and uproot to become a head coach at a middling Power 5 school or a upper tier Group of 5 school or does he continue doing what he is confident in doing making similar money with his family happy? If he isn’t successful as a head coach where would he land? Would it be as fun as what he has now? I think we know the answers. I say he stays a Clemson Tiger.
