So is Trump a Putin stooge who does whatever he's told or not? Seems like randomly imprisoning Russians for no reason whatsoever would fly in the face of that narrative. And when will you goobers stop believing "the accounts" of people who say they did nothing wrong and are completely innocent, especially Russians.

What she did generally warrants a warning or a fine. Since when do we revoke visas and hold people indefinitely without charges?
And why do you support it?

anything besides the frog samples, followed by her claim that she did fear returning to Russia, has led to her multi-month detention. No indication of any additional contraband or any criminal behavior during the interaction. They said that the fear of returning to Russia prompted the Asylum process which has locked her up. What would you suspect she has done that warrants a three month lock-up? Again...there are no criminal charges. She had been cleared to legally work in America and was doing so. So what do you think she's done? What would make this make sense to you?

She should at least get a hotel room in Manhattan. On a more serious note, this administration is going to create a brain frame with people not wanting to çome here from abroad to our universities. It's extremely shortsighted.

1. she's an activist. Why is everyone in academia, an activist? Why? Too much free time? 2. she came here to research aging, cause it doesn't exist in Russia, I guess 3. she had to bring back embryos from out of the country from her "vacation" for the lab HERE? ###? 4. No one in America can work the microscope (Without me there to help, the lab has been unable to analyze the image data that the microscope generates.) 5. she broke the rules and is facing the consequences

1) What do you mean "she's an activist"? Like, she protests Russia's invasion of Ukraine? THAT kind of "activist"? What does that matter? 2) That's right. People come to America to conduct advanced research for no reason. It's not because Russia is a broke, oppressive regime that imprisons anyone who speaks out against the government and it's not because they have no money to conduct their research in general, let alone during this time of sanctions. 3) She covers that in the article - she thought it would be better to just bring it back with her since the samples had been damaged in previous attempts to ship. 4) Yeah...I dunno. Probably over stated but it wouldn't surprise me if they were holding on the research rather than replacing her. I'm sure they thought she would be out by now. Because...ridiculous.
That is a Twelve "L" "LOL Train". Too many L's. I'd say three would suffice...sufficient to express your absolute hysterics that anyone believes this story. Twelve makes you sound crazy.
Anyway, as the article says, she faces no criminal charges. How can we justify holding her for several months?
Put yourself in this situation. If a family member of yours forgot to mention that they had some fruit in their bag on a trip to...I dunno...the Philippines. What would you think about them sitting in a prison for three months? How many L's in that "LOL". "LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! My sister is so stupid! I guess that's what she gets for forgetting she had an orange in her backpack!"
No...you'd think it was a Banana Republic Third World country and that your sister was being treated unfairly.

It seems to matter to fascists. If someone protests a fascist government, they are fair game to be jailed....at least that's what these MAGAts seem to be saying.

"Conservatives" used to pretend to be supportive of bringing in the best and brightest from around the world. During Trump, they want us isolated and stupid, because to think otherwise would run afoul of the Red Hat Mob.

would agree that a highly-skilled scientist with an approved work visa should not be in an ICE Detention center. Failure to declare a specimen that does not pose any risk to the public should not be grounds for revoking of an approved work visa and a threat to be returned to one's home country. It should never have come to the point of an asylum case. A fine, a warning...confiscation of the specimens. All fine. Everything else is absurd.

Process. They also said that she made it through immigration before her checked luggage was flagged.
If theees more to it, they could have told us. Or at least said that there was more to the story but that they can’t comment. But they have not indicated that that is the case. If it turns out the “Harmless Frog Embryo Samples” is street slang for some new highly addictive recreational drug, I’ll change my opinion. But as it stands, all parties weee contacted and I’ll go ahead and form an opinion based on available information. You, of course, are free to concoct a narrative that isn’t currently supported by anything in order to validate your already established opinion.

it seems like the person was doing something stupid. I only scanned this "report".

I really don't feel like this person is giving all of the "facts".

Frog embryos can have significant financial value, particularly in the context of scientific research and the pharmaceutical industry. They are valuable as a model organism for studying human diseases and developing therapeutic options. The African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) is a popular choice for this, with its embryos being used to study various aspects of development, cell biology, and disease mechanisms. Additionally, frog eggs have been shown to rejuvenate adult human cells, further highlighting their potential value in research and biotechnology.

scientist smuggling anything into the US - it's not a smart thing to do.
The 3-month hold with no charges - I'll have to do some research before I believe there was nothing more to it.
Edit: I just read above where Swarley stated she fears returning to Russia. So, a Russian scientist smuggles something into the US, so she is held and probably facing deportation. Then, I guess she tried to claim asylum - and that has put her is some sort of legal limbo. (Obviously just guessing here.)

1) I applaud your open mindedness. 2) frog embryos are selling for about $35 for 50-100 of them. Perhaps this was how she was going to create her empire, but I’m skeptical. For goodness sake, she had her lab partners send pictures to the NYT for the article. If there was a problem with her cover story they probably would have said something. 3) if the items she had in her bag were of significant value and the government thought that’s why she didn’t declare it, they need to charge her with the crime of smuggling. The only reason she’s sitting around is because she said she’s afraid to go to Russia.
