Since we're doing this today: What do you want out of life?

I have a buddy whose work ethic could cut diamond. He's hyper-driven, and just started on an amazing new venture outside of his work/family duties.
I've mentioned before my other buddy won a seat in Congress this last cycle.
I've done some cool things in my career. Had experiences that nobody else has. But I'm now in a stable job, doing some things on the side, but for the most part, just kinda cruising. When my first buddy announced his new project, I got a little introspective and wondered if I was doing enough; basically, am I living a full life.
But then I thought, the dude didn't find missing hours in a day. He had to make cuts somewhere, either with family or work, or more likely both. But, that's where his passion was. Would I want to make those same sacrifices?
Then I got to thinking what would be the added value? I am happy. Like, genuinely happy and fulfilled. My marriage is great. My son is thriving. I'm doing well at work. And our jobs pay the bills, and provide a good (but not opulent) lifestyle. Looking at all the things I value (wife, kid, faith, job fulfillment), I've checked all the boxes. I think, to a large degree, I've self-actualized. But is that too early in life? But if so, what additional value do I want to add? Am I really missing things in life?
Usually "travel" is the top answer for what more people should be doing, but even here I start to question the lasting value. We spent two weeks in Italy for our honeymoon. It was awesome. I got lots of pictures, and made some good memories. But even the memories are fading and it hasn't even been a decade yet. I remember feeling humbled by the Sistine Chapel, and wondered by the frescos, but I can't accurately recall any of that. So, even "travel" seems to have a point of diminishing return wherein of course I would love to travel and show my son different parts of the world (at 4, his #1 priority in travel is a bullet train in Japan). And, we certainly have and do travel. But, if we didn't turn into globetrotters like some other people do, I'm not sure I would feel like i was missing out.
To me, it almost seems like people are uncomfortable with cruising, when perhaps the secret to happiness is (genuine) fulfillment in what you have, or working towards them. This may be different for some people. Some people have big goals that they need to fulfill; some people need to leave a mark in history. Yet, it's not wrong to say, I am genuinely happy where I am, and what I have accomplished leaves me fulfilled and content with life.
Is it? Am I leaving something on the table?

I've never once been accused of being skinny.
I have been accused of "acting" white, and sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

So now I'm working my way up this one, making more money, and still have plenty of time off for family.
So.. semi-ambitious?

I have great memories of all the years with my kids, but if I'm out in public and see someone with a kid that's anywhere from newborn to puberty, there isn't a single fiber in me that wants to go back and relive that. I like my kids just where they are, and it's like it improved a little more and more as they got older. Sure the teen years can have ups and downs, but there's a lot to be said for your kids being able to drive themselves everywhere and removing a giant logistics obligation from your calendar every.single.day.

more enjoyable. Don't have to carry him anywhere, we go out in the yard and kick the soccer ball, go fishing, etc.
Once my daughter gets older, I never want to hold another baby again in my life. I have PTSD from the crying and spit up.

My youngest drives at night now and oldest ones have moved out.
We are living that #nearemptynester life and it is MUY BUENO.
Do I miss having the kids around all the time? F no I don't. I love 'em, I enjoy seeing them and spending time with them, and ADORE having the house nearly to ourselves.
I'd give up Rush's hamburgers 4lyfe, become a gamecock fan, and would play golf in death valley before signing up to have a toddler in the house.
The few frands we have with little ones I don't even enjoy when they bring the little shids over unless the kids split within 10 minutes.

Because in real life people look at you like a monster if you say something similar. I love my kids too, but diapers, formula, etc. can all f*ck off. Ain't no way in hail I'll "miss these days". I change shirts 4 times a day due to spit up, w tf would I miss that?

and it doesn't.
From prolly 7 yrs old until they can drive, the amount of driving them around increases exponentially by the year.
They are generally sweet and innocent until Middle School, and that's when the middle-school level BS starts. And it's AWFUL.
By 8th grade or so, they are officially expensive AF. Then ya start worrying about who they are hanging out with and what they are up to when out with frands. GF/BF concept starts kicking in, so there's more variables with that.
Then they get to driving. They gone. You only see 'em when they need to shower, want money, or are hungry and broke. At 15 they think they are 25.
Then they go to college and you just happily live life nekkid 'round the house with no worries. You'll still grill out for 4 knowing darn good and well it's just you and the wife, but you have full clarity around the joy spent standing around charcoal and don't want it to end. Imagine how happy you'll be when you don't have to hide your weed anymore. Bawce, you're just I'm guessing a short 15 yrs or so away!

not travel, but I like learning things and doing stuff then moving on to the next thing. I like helping people - do some handyman work for those that need a helping hand, volunteering, just keeping busy and staying curious.
I worked my a$$ off a lot of my career, but it was stuff I liked doing for the most part and it sure paid well. Not Elon Musk well, but well enough that I can live a nice retirement and still do some spoiling of my kids and grandkids.
I don't think anyone would ever say I put work/career before my family, but I think I did a good job of balance. I also have the ability to handle stress well, so that makes it easier imo.
The memories you make need to be relived, shared, enjoyed - or you do forget them. I used to call or text my sister every day with questions about our childhood, family and friends from long ago, just to refresh our memories. I miss being able to do that more than anything right now.

after watching first ep of Geddy Lee's show, Les is on top. (thanks for the tip @Obed)
Owns a farm out in the woods (he taught Geddy how to drive an excavator on the show, which was lol funny) Owns a fish pond. Owns a vineyard-winery/hot dog stand combo -- https://www.purplepachyderm.com/072021_weiners.php Also a rock god.
That's pretty effin' peak life.
I got the first 2, but 3 and 4 are gonna be a tough reach.

But he wasn’t an exactly a picture of classic masculinity in that episode.
Not sure if being worried about getting in the side by side or asking Les to take the fish off his hook was worse. scooter

This evening I would like a nice Bordeaux and listen to some Christmas music.
I mainly want my family and friends to be happy and healthy, and to have good solid relationships with them. Probably sounds corny but that's really one of the biggest parts. It's really all about the peeps.
Make sure I'm taking deep breaths of some of that sweet air.
