Somebody asked this question the other night, but I'm not

sure there was a clear answer: Is it still against the rules in college basketball (technical foul) to hang on the rim after a dunk unless you are doing it protect yourself, e.g., someone underneath you at the time? I can't tell you how often I see player doing this when there is clearly no safety risk involved. But I can't remember a time this season where a technical foul was called.

That rule has gone the way of the Dodo...

...just like walking, apparently.

I agree on the walking and palming. But I assumed they

changed the rules on both accordingly. I may be wrong. Did they change the rule on the hanging on the rim or is it just being ignored?

Simple google search returned this on many sites...

..."Hanging on the rim after a dunk is not allowed unless a player is grabbing the rim to avoid injuring himself and/or land on another player." So, apparently, it is still against the rules. But refs are loath to call it for some reason.

Palming, travelling, and hanging on the rim except to avoid

injury are all still against the rules. Here's my point: Refs should be required to enforce all rules equally; they should not have the discretion to routinely ignore any rule. If they don't like a rule or if the NCAA rules committee or the association of refs or whomever disagrees with a rule, then the rule should be changed or eliminated, not ignored.

The truth is, refs know that since they have ignored those rules for so long now, players, coaches, and fans have come to expect the rule to be ignored, and as is evidenced here, many have no clue what the rules actually are. Therefore, if refs suddenly lost their tampons and regrew a set of balls and started doing their jobs, they'd be met with outrage across the board.

or the body check by ball handlers trying to create some space when driving to the basket. Those always have been and still are offensive fouls, but are rarely called.

Honestly, when is the last time you saw a demonstrative dunk in the middle of a game. You see little dunks on break aways, but when do you see a giant offensive rebound with a crowd blowing dunk?? Seems the game doesn't have the same gusto it used to and a 3pt is more exciting than a hard slam. Maybe this is just because I watch Clemson but I don't see it often from other teams either? Is it just me?

I couldn’t find anything new but as of 2022 it remained the same. Found a few examples where players on breakaways were called for fouls on this and while no one was around them, they may have been injured due to their momentum. But hey, like others have said BB has become a joke. I’ve been done with NBA since the end of the Jordan Bulls days, and can barely stomach college now…I watched the second half Saturday…

The NBA has become more "WWE/Sports Entertainment"

than legitimate sport, where dazzling and entertaining weak-minded fans is the primary goal. Anything, including rules, that interferes with that is frowned upon. Might as well go to a rasslin' show or a circus. Sadly, college basketball, and even football, is heading that way, and it seems nobody cares or even notices.

The NBA would be more interesting if they would

Raise the goal to 11 feet and add a foot to the three point and foul lines. Increase the size of the 3 second area and take 5 seconds off the shot clock with 5 more seconds off the shot clock after each offensive rebound.
